Pope Benedict XVI has announced, in a surprising and shocking resignation, that he will step down on February 28, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. Has the next Pope already been predestined and foreordained?
Now: Pope Benedict XVI
The former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, a Hitler Youth as a boy, who later deserted the Nazis, was one of the oldest Roman Catholic Popes. He was 78 when first picked; Benedict XVI will be 85 when he ends his term. Ratzinger assumed the Papacy following John Paul II's death in 2005.
An editor of The Anomalist [Twitter @anomalistnews] has shared that Imgur is pointing out that a German calendar predicted the resignation down to the exact day. See below.
"Heiliger Strohsocki! Morgen kündige ich!" translates as "Holy smokes! Tomorrow I'll quit!" on the calendar dated Februar 10 Sonntag ("Sunday"). Note that the number "23" denotes "breaking apart" and "28" is the date in February when Benedict XVI's retirement becomes official.
Update: Sign from the Heavens?
After the resignation, what happened?
Past: Reason?
Some have noted that the conservative Pope Benedict XVI has not handled the priest sex abuse crisis extremely well.
For those who are unaware of the significant political role of Pope Benedict XVI in this scandal, you may wish to view Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, a powerful 2012 documentary film, directed by Alex Gibney. It is airing on HBO in 2013, including, by "coincidence," on February 11, 2013, the day Benedict XVI's resignation was announced. As the documentary notes, on November 25, 1981, Pope John Paul II named Ratzinger as the Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, formerly known as the "Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office," the historical Roman Inquisition. As the Holy Inquistor, the future Benedict XVI had all priest sexual abuse cases come through his office. As the Pope, he backed away from making fundamental changes to the structure of how the Papacy handled the scandal. As the Gibney documents, Benedict XVI may have been stopped for doing more for the victims, instead of protecting the establishment, by those surrounding him.
Next: Petrus Romanus
So what now? Did St. Malachy indicate the future of the Papacy and the Roman Catholic Church?
Now the speculation will be on who shall be chosen as the next Pope. But do the prophecies of Saint Malachy (pictured at top) give us an insight? Saint Malachy was a 12th century visionary Irish monk, who during a trek to Rome, foresaw all the popes who would reign into the future, to the final one.
When they were published, 500 years after allegedly being found in the Vatican archives, they were debunked as being false. But intriguingly, the prophecies published in Benedictine historian Arnold Wion's book Lignum Vitae in 1559, has been demonstrated to be very accurate. Indeed, Malachy's list, today, from 1139, has been found to be remarkably correct.
According to the Malachy prophecies, the next Pope could be seen as being named Petrus Romanus, Peter Romanus, Peter the Roman, or Peter of Roman. "Peter" or a variation on that name is derived from the meaning, "the Rock of the Church," linking the last Pope to the first (non-Jesus Christ) leader of the Church. (Padre, of course, is another name for "father," and is related to the name Peter.)
Peter Romanus, in the prophecies, is viewed as the last Pope. Pope Peter (II?) of Rome? Or a Cardinal named Peter?
The Future: The Church Shall Change
The phrase "the seven hilled city" is a direct reference to Rome. "The Seven Hills of Rome (Italian: Sette colli di Roma) east of the river Tiber form the geographical heart of Rome, within the walls of the ancient city. The original city was held by tradition to have been founded by Romulus on the Palatine Hill." Source.
Part of Benedict XVI's statement reads,
After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry...In today's world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to adequately fulfil the ministry entrusted to me.Update: Cartoon Predicted Resignation

Saint Malachy was a 12th century visionary Irish monk, who during a trek to Rome, foresaw all the popes who would reign into the future, to the final one.
Malachy, in verse, wrote down the future names of the Popes in epigrammatic code, which have been clearly linked to the names of the Popes chosen. Malachy's series of visions are about 112 Popes from Celestine III, who was elected Pontiff in 1130, until the last Pope who is described in his list as Peter Romanus.
The last Pope? Yes, Malachy is said to have seen the end of the Papacy with the election of what would be the next Pope after his predicted Benedict XVI (The Glory of the Olive).
Peter the Apostle probably never visited Rome. Source.

The Future: The Church Shall Change
The Saint Malachy verses end thusly:
In the persecution of the Holy Roman Church,
There will reign Peter the Roman,
Who will feed his flock among many tribulations
After which the seven hilled city will be destroyed
And the dreadful Judge will judge the people.

The verse is seen as predicting everything from the end of the Papal structure to the end of the world. Will the celibacy of priests end under the next Pope?
Prepare to see many views of the Vatican's obelisk during February 2013.

The pope resigning on Feb. 28th made me look further into the significance of the date itself. I came across sone strange coincidences.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Wikipedia, on Feb 28th, 1958 there was a historically fatal bus accident. In the following quote it cites one big coincidence bit it also has a few smaller ones as well. It states: "On a cold and cloudy morning, after a period of heavy rains and thaw, a Floyd County school bus loaded with 48 elementary and high school students bound for school at Prestonsburg on U.S. Route 23 struck the rear of a wrecker truck and plunged down an embankment and into the swollen waters of the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River, where it was swept downstream and submerged.
22 children escaped the bus in the first few minutes as it became fully submerged in the raging flood stage waters and made it safely out of the river. However, 26 other children and the bus driver drowned. National Guard and other authorities and agencies responded. The bus was finally located by Navy divers, and removed from the river 53 hours later.
As of May 2007, almost 50 years later, the 27 person death toll is tied with the Carrollton bus disaster in 1988 for the highest number of fatalities resulting from a bus accident. Both happened in Kentucky and in each, the victims were all thought to have survived the initial collisions, but were unable to safely evacuate the school-type buses afterwards."
How coincidental is that?
In 1958, 26 children were killed on Big Sandy River.
The coincidences here almost go without saying with the recent tragedy in Newtown.
Before Nemo dumped close to 3 feet of snow in the northeast here in the states, there was a bus accident in Boston injuring 33 people, there was also another bus accident in California recently that killed 7 people.
As posted on here the former hostage situation in Alabama started with the gun man shooting and killing a school bus driver. And then proceeding to kidnap the 5 year old boy.
If anyone has checked the news today there was a bus accident in Bangladesh that killed 18 people.
There was also a bus accident a few days ago in Chile that killed 16 people.
Also in Baltimore just this morning a teacher on his way to work when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a school bus. The accident claimed the teachers life and injured no one on the bus.

ReplyDeleteJust doing the maths, according to Malachy: Petrus Romanus will prbl. not be the name of the next pope, but Malachy recognized some of the predicted popes by their real names and/or places of birth. This leads me directly to the canditates: there is two Peters among the electable cardinals - at first sight. Peter Turko from Ghana and Peter Erdo from Hungary. Looking at their bio on wikipedia shows, that none of them was born in Rome or had significantly something to do with Rome. By looking up the biographies of the more important cardinals, I stumbled upon Tarcisio Bertone, Cardinal Secretary of State of the Vatican, quasi the head of state. Bertone´s full name is: Tarcisio Pietro Evasio Bertone and he was born in Romano Canavese in the province Piemont in North Italy. A quick check tells us: there are 2 full matches in the comparison of the latin words of Malachy and the name and birth place of Cardinal Bertone: Petrus = Pietro, Romanus = Romano, as the male adjectiv. Furthermore Bertone is "Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church", an office which empowers him with some papal duties of administration of the Holy See during its vacancy. Among those duties is the determination of the death of the pope, as well as the breaking of the Ring Petri, the ultimate sign of papal power, of the dead pope. As far as I know, all Cardinals have to kiss the Ring of Petrus to show their serfdom. Bertone is a very powerful man in the catholic church, as well as he is in a very powerful position. Taking the Ring Petri and not breaking it, could make him indeed the last pope of the known papal system, ending the catholic church, as predicted by Malachy. Anyway, somehow as "Camerlengo", he will be head of the state and ceremonial administration of the Holy See during the time between the end of the office of Benedict XVI and the election of a new Pope, which makes him kind of Pope-alike. So Malachy was right anyway. Lets see what will come after that.
ReplyDelete[I'd left this comment a while back, but I don't think it took]
ReplyDeletePerhaps this has been noted before, but the comments regarding bus accidents reminds me of the "Man of Steel" trailer that was being shown in the previews for "The Hobbit" HFR. This link includes a fairly accurate write-up and transcript, and the lexilinks involved are pretty self-evident.

"Tarcisio" = "Iscariot"
ReplyDeleteSt Malachy's alleged Prophecy of the Popes calls the last Pope Peter The Roman only because Peter was the name of the first Pope. It doesn't mean the last Pope will actually be called Peter, only that he will be the last Successor to him.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite simple, really. Nevertheless, I suspect we may have entered the eschatological times described by Jesus in the Gospels.
I think the Cardinal Archbishop of Lyon, Philippe Barbarin, has a good chance of being the next Pope.
ReplyDeleteVery charismatic and in that respect reminiscent of John Paul 11, he is highly intelligent and has steel in his backbone.

ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting time to be alive, that's for sure :)
ReplyDeleteAs huibooh said of cardinals Turko and Erdo ("none of them was born in Rome or had significantly something to do with Rome") I have to notice that according to Wikipedia cardinal Peter Erdo had been supporting ROMA people for many years. Thus maybe "Romanus" means "Roman" not for the city but for the nation?
ReplyDeleteSomething I posted Mar. 8 on dailypaul.com:
ReplyDelete-----------
The next Catholic pope will be the final pope according to the centuries-old prophecy of St. Malachy, and he will be known as Petrus Romanus (Peter the Roman). Consequently, those disposed to credit the prophecy have taken a look at Catholic cardinals named Peter.
One such is Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana, considered to be "papabile" by church authorities. He studied and held positions in the US before returning to Ghana where he was made bishop, then cardinal. Along the way he seems to have been infected with socialism. From Wikipedia:
"In October 2011 Cardinal Turkson called for the establishment of a 'global public authority' and a 'central world bank' to rule over financial institutions that have become outdated and often ineffective in dealing fairly with crises. The document, 'Towards Reforming the International Financial and Monetary Systems in the Context of a Global Public Authority' was very specific, calling for taxation measures on financial transactions. It notes that 'The economic and financial crisis which the world is going through calls everyone, individuals and peoples, to examine in depth the principles and the cultural and moral values at the basis of social coexistence,' it said. The document condemned what it called 'the idolatry of the market' as well as a 'neo-liberal thinking' that it said looked exclusively at technical solutions to economic problems. 'In fact, the crisis has revealed behaviours like selfishness, collective greed and hoarding of goods on a great scale,' it said, adding that world economics needed an 'ethic of solidarity' among rich and poor nations."
It certainly sounds like Turkson would gladly help usher in the New World Order. Whether he is known to anyone as "Peter the Roman" I haven't been able to find out.
WAS PETER THE FIRST POPE?
ReplyDeleteWas the apostle Peter the first Pope of the Roman Catholic Church? A few reasons why Peter was not the first Pope.
Peter was not Pope because there is no office of Pope mentioned in the Scriptures. Peter was not the first Pope of the Roman Catholic Church because there is no Roman Catholic Church mentioned in the Bible.
Peter was not a Pope because the apostles were not in subjection to him.
2 Corinthians 11:5 For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles. 2 Corinthians 12:11 I have become foolish; you yourselves compelled me. Actually I should have been commended by you, for in no respect was I inferior to the most eminent apostles, even though I am a nobody.
Not only was the apostle Paul not in subjection to Peter, he reprimanded Peter in Antioch.
Galatians 2:11-21 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned....14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, "If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?....
Peter was not Paul's superior. (Cephas was Peter, John 1:42)
Peter was not a Pope, because he did not believe that the Virgin Mary was a mediator between men and God nor did he offer up prayers to her.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Peter was not a Pope, because he did not pray to any saints dead or alive. Prayer is worship.
Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Go Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only !"
Peter was not the first Pope, because he refuse to let men bow down and kiss his ring in an act of worship.
Acts 10:25-26 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him. fell at his feet and worshiped him. 26 But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up; I too am just a man."
Peter was not the first Pope because he did not referred to himself as the Chief Shepherd or head of the church of Christ. The Chief Shepherd and head of the church is Jesus Christ and Jesus alone.(Colossians 1:13-19, 1 Peter 5:1-4, Hebrews 13"20, Ephesians 1:20-23, Matthew 28:18-20, Ephesians 5:22-24.)
Peter was not the first Pope nor was he ever a Pope.
