Cayce Crash

A February 4, 2018 morning crash involving an Amtrak passenger train - the Silver Star Train 91 - and a freight train in Cayce, South Carolina, killed at least two people and injured more than 100.

The number of the engine of the CSX freight train is 36. The number on the engine of Train 91 is 47.

Here are the main elements of the morning's events.

▪ There were eight crew members and approximately 139 passengers on board.
▪ The two people who were killed were Amtrak employees. They were identified as train engineer Michael Kempf, 54, from Savannah, Ga., and conductor Michael Cella, 36, Orange Park, Fla.

▪ The crash between the Amtrak train and a CSX freight train occurred near Charleston Highway and Pine Ridge Road around 2:35 a.m. Sunday. The lead engine and a few passenger cars derailed.
▪ The Amtrak train appeared to be on the wrong track, when it collided with a freight train that was stationary and on a loading track.
▪ All the passengers have been removed from Amtrak 91, which was operating from New York to Miami.
▪ More than 100 passengers were taken to local hospitals, McMaster said. The Palmetto Health hospital system received 62 patients from the crash. According to Dr. Steve Shelton with Palmetto Health, one patient remains critical and two others are in serious condition. There were 48 patients being cared for at the main Palmetto Health location in Columbia. At least two children were involved in the accident, Shelton said. Sources 1, 2, 3.

Cayce, South Carolina, ia a city in Lexington and Richland counties in the U.S. state of South Carolina, along the Congaree River. The population was 12,528 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Cayce as a name has the meaning "alert, watchful." Cayce is a variant form of Casey (Irish, Gaelic): from the male Gaelic name Cathasaigh.

Casey is a common variation of the Gaelic cathasaigh, meaning "vigilant or watchful."

In ancient times, O'Casey came from the gaelic, O'Cathasaigh word meaning "watchful or vigilant in war" + "grandson or descendant." The O'Caseys were descendants of the O'Carrolls, the Princes of Ely. The Princes of Ely were in turn descended from the Kings of Munster.

The town was incorporated in 1914 and named for local businessman William J. Cayce.
The modern City of Cayce was born out of the coming of the railroads in the 19th Century. At that time the area was known as Cayce Crossing, named for Uncle Billy Cayce, a prominent citizen. In 1914, when the city was formed, the name Cayce was chosen for the town to honor “Uncle Billy.”

Also, in 1914, the Cayce family built a new home in Cayce and moved there to be closer to the center of the town’s activities and the Cayce family’s general store. (Their second home still stands on Holland Avenue.) By 1930, the population of Cayce was around 3,000.

By 1941, the small town of Cayce had become predominantly a railroad town. The railroads made a substantial contribution to the city with the number of local citizens it employed and the payroll it generated for many years. Both the Southern and the Seaboard Railroads handled passengers and mail to and from Cayce and beyond At that time, the railroad, lumberyard, quarry and fertilizer plant were the principal places of employment. Source.

William J. Cayce, Sr., affectionately known as “Uncle Billie,” was born July 29, 1864. He built a general store in his early 20’s and operated the store for nearly 50 years. The store was located in the heart of “old” Cayce, near the Seaboard Railroad. Uncle Billie built his own railroad siding to obtain merchandise for his store, and trainmen often referred to the store as Cayce’s Crossing. The City of Cayce was chartered in 1914, and is named in honor of Uncle Billie Cayce.

Three or four generations removed, we find William Cayce in the family tree of Edgar Cayce.

Free association of the name "Cayce" would naturally bring us to the individual Edgar Cayce (March 18, 1877 – January 3, 1945), who was an American Christian mystic who answered questions on subjects as varied as healing, reincarnation, wars, Atlantis, and future events while claiming to be in a trance. A biographer gave him the nickname, "The Sleeping Prophet." A nonprofit organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, was founded to facilitate the study of Cayce's work.

Edgar Cayce was born on March 18, 1877, near Beverly, south of Hopkinsville, Kentucky (site of the later, 1955 sightings of "little people" at Kelly, important in flying saucer lore). Edgar was one of six children of farmers Carrie and Leslie B. Cayce. As a child he played with the "little folk" and was alleged to have seen his deceased grandfather. Some consider Edgar Cayce the true founder and a principal source of the most characteristic beliefs of the New Age movement.

The Red Dirt Report editor Andrew W. Griffin began the morning with the comment: "Pay attention to names, numbers and circumstances in Cayce, South Carolina train crash today. Train theme weighing heavily on my mind of late."

The Cayce crash followed quickly in the wake of the Crozet crash.

On February 4, 1977, a Chicago Transit Authority elevated train rear-ends another and derails, killing 11 and injuring 180, the worst accident in the agency's history.

What else should we expect on this date?

1974

On this date, February 4, 2018, the number one focus of most media and Americans is Super Bowl LII (52). Should we watch the actions of the two teams' players wearing the numbers 91?

Fayette Factor: Crozet Crash

An Amtrak train carrying GOP lawmakers to a retreat hit trash truck - owned by Time Disposal - causing injures of those on board.

One of two people on the vehicle is reported to have died.

A chartered train carrying Republican lawmakers to a retreat collided with a trash truck on January 31, 2018, Wednesday morning at 11:20 am, a congressman said.

The train was carrying House and Senate Republicans to the retreat in West Virginia when it hit the truck, Congressman Carlos Curbelo, of Florida, said on MSNBC.

The crash occurred outside of Charlottesville, Virginia, specifically in Crozet, Virginia.

The train was on the way to West Virginia when a sudden impact occurred, a loud noise was heard; everyone on the train was jolted.

###

The town of Crozet is named after Benoît "Claudius" Crozet (December 31, 1789 – January 29, 1864).

Crozet traveled to the United States in 1816, and, with recommendation from the Marquis de Lafayette, became assistant professor of engineering at the United States Military Academy, a postion he held from 1817 to 1823. Source.

Crozet taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and helped found the Virginia Military Institute at Lexington, Virginia. Crozet was Principal Engineer for the Virginia Board of Public Works and oversaw the planning and construction of canals, turnpikes, bridges and railroads in Virginia, including the area which is now West Virginia. He became widely known as the "Pathfinder of the Blue Ridge."

While at West Point, Crozet is credited by some as being the first to use the chalkboard as an instructional tool. He also designed several of the buildings at West Point. Thomas Jefferson referred to Claudius Crozet as "by far the best mathematician in the United States."

The anniversary of Crozet's death is January 29th. He died at the age of 74, in 1864. The town of Crozet, Virginia was named in his honor in 1870. The dining hall at the Virginia Military Institute is also named in his honor. It has been affectionately nicknamed "Club Crozet" by the Cadets.

DuPont's Dynamite Train

There was an unfortunate Amtrak passenger train accident on Monday, December 18, 2017, when cars came off the tracks near DuPont, Washington. Three fatalities resulted, with over 100 injuries.

The straight facts, from Wikipedia, are these:
On December 18, 2017 [at 7:33 or 7:34 AM local time], Amtrak Cascades passenger train 501 derailed near DuPont, Washington, United States. It was the inaugural southbound revenue service run on the Point Defiance Bypass, a new passenger rail route south of Tacoma, Washington. The bypass was intended to reduce congestion and separate passenger and freight traffic, and was designed for faster speeds and shorter travel times (from Seattle to Portland about ten minutes less) than the previous route used by Cascades.
The lead locomotive and all twelve cars derailed while approaching a bridge over Interstate 5 (I-5). The trailing locomotive remained on the rails. A number of automobiles on southbound I-5 were crushed and at least three people on board the train died. The train derailed a short distance from where the new route merges with the previous route.
I don't need to write a lot about the syncs with this crash, as Andrew W. Griffin at Red Dirt Report already has written down his thoughts on this event, here, in the broader context of other dots that have presented themselves to be connected.

For more on the "LABRATS KNATS" at the derailment site, see here.

Returning to the hint of Mothman Math in this accident (13 off the track), it is intriguing that Andrew W. Griffin sync-mind is set off by something he is watching on TNT. And the TNT area in Point Pleasant was where the Mothman was first seen the most often, in 1966.

Now it comes to light that this wreck didn't happen just "near Tacoma," but more exactly, in DuPont, Washington State, which takes its name from the chemical company. E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, commonly referred to as DuPont, is an American conglomerate that was founded in July 1802 as a gunpowder mill by American chemist and industrialist Éleuthère Irénée du Pont. On August 31, 2017 it merged with The Dow Chemical Company to create DowDuPont Inc., the world's largest chemical company in terms of sales.

What item was manufactured with some frequency in DuPont, Washington? Dynamite. What explosive is most associated with the appropriately named "TNT area" of Point Pleasant, West Virginia? Dynamite.

DuPont, Washington, located on the Puget Sound 15 miles south of Tacoma, was an important explosives plant and a premier company town. Construction of the plant took three years, with the first dynamite produced in the fall of 1909. Source.

One of the lesser known historical tidbits about DuPont, Washington is the "Dynamite Train."

During its operation, the DuPont Company had a fleet of narrow-gauge locomotives and rail cars to deliver materials and explosives between the old DuPont Powderworks Plant and the Puget Sound. When the DuPont Company sold the plant and surrounding property in 1977 to Weyerhaeuser, the fleet of locomotives, flat bed and boxcars were included with the sale. In the same year, the DuPont Historical Museum opened. Members began the task of retrieving artifacts and oral history accounts to preserve DuPont’s unique history. In the early 1980s, residents organized a grass roots effort to rescue a 1941 Plymouth 12-ton engine along with 5 other rail cars from Weyerhaeuser. It is the particular train locomotive that navigated the line, which resides under the Train Canopy. Source.

The Silver Bridge collapsed happened 50 years ago on December 15, 2017.

On December 18, 1967, President Lyndon Baines Johnson sent West Virginia Governor Hulett C. Smith a telegraph saying the nation was saddened by the Silver Bridge collapse.

Trinidad 33

The Holy Trinity jumps to our consciousness from the Red (the meaning of Colorado).

An Amtrak train crashed in to a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country in Colorado on Sunday, June 26, 2016.

This tragedy must be pondered, as it occurred three miles from Trinidad, Colorado.  (Anyone know the name of the peak in the background here? Fishers Peak, answer my correspondents,)

3 + Trinity = 33

The van's right side was hit after it failed to yield the right of way to the train, Colorado State Patrol said in a news release.

The driver and four passengers were killed. One occupant was airlifted to Denver Hospital with injuries police described as serious. Six people.

Investigators say the crash happened on Las Animas County Road 32, around three miles north of Trinidad. 9NEWS sister station KOAA-TV reports the parents who died were Christina and Steve Miller.  (Christina links to the "Christ" undercurrent here, of course.) Las Animas Road further plays into the religious theme: Las Animas means "the souls" or "the spirits," often referring to the dead in Purgatory.

Their children, Abigail, Kathryn and Ellianna also passed away. Four-year-old Heidi Miller was the only survivor.

No train passengers or crew members were hurt.

Authorities said the van was not stopped on the railroad tracks.

The crash happened about three miles north of Trinidad, Colorado.

The town of Trinidad has had an underlying history linked to baseball and other sports.
Trinidad was first explored by Spanish and Mexican traders, who liked its proximity to the Santa Fe Trail. It was founded in 1862 soon after coal was discovered in the region. This led to an influx of immigrants, eager to capitalize on this important natural resource. By the late 1860s, the town had about 1,200 residents. Trinidad was officially incorporated in 1876, just a few months before Colorado became a state.  An important milestone for the town occurred in 1878, when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway reached Trinidad, making it easier for goods to be shipped from distant locations. In the 1880s, Trinidad became home to a number of well-known people, including Bat Masterson, who briefly served as the town's marshal in 1882. By 1900, the population of Trinidad had grown to 7,500. It was now home to two English-language newspapers, and one that was published in Spanish.

In the early 1900s, Trinidad became nationally known for having the first woman sports editor of a newspaper, Ina Eloise Young. Her expertise was in baseball, and in 1908, she was the only woman sportswriter to cover the World Series. During the same period of time, Trinidad was also home to a popular semi-pro baseball team, which was briefly coached by Damon Runyon. The Legends of the West...The Wild West's Trinity, all with ties to Trinidad, Colorado, however brief.

The infamous Ludlow Massacre is also associated with Trinidad, Colorado. Many people died in the "massacre."

Trinidad is a Spanish name directly related to the "Holy Trinity."
Trinidad is the larger and more populated of the two major islands that make up the island nation of "The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago." Trinidad is the southernmost island in the Caribbean and lies just 11 km (6.8 mi) off the northeastern coast of Venezuela. The original name for the island in the native Arawak language is "Iëre," believed to mean "Land of the Hummingbird." Christopher Columbus renamed it "La Isla de la Trinidad" ("The Island of the Trinity"), fulfilling a vow he had made before setting out on his third voyage of exploration. Trinidad and Tobago is known for its Carnival and is considered to be the birthplace of the steelpan (steel drum) musical instrument, limbo dancing, and the musical styles of calypso, soca, and chutney.
