The Plague Doctors Cometh: Update

Walpurgis Night, an abbreviation of Saint Walpurgis Night from the German Sankt Walpurgisnacht, also known as Saint Walpurga's Eve (alternatively spelled Saint Walburga's Eve), is the eve of the Christian feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess in Francia, and is celebrated on the night of 30 April and the day of 1 May. This feast commemorates the canonization of Saint Walpurga and the movement of her relics to Eichstätt, both of which occurred on 1 May 870. (May 1st is also called Beltane.)

Saint Walpurga was hailed by the Christians of Germany for battling "pest, rabies and whooping cough, as well as against witchcraft." Christians prayed to God through the intercession of Saint Walpurga in order to protect themselves from witchcraft, as Saint Walpurga was successful in converting the local populace to Christianity.

2020

In the midst of the present worldwide novel coronavirus/COVID19 pandemic, will (as one anonymous commentator termed them) "steampunk goth wannabes" portraying Plague Stalkers begin appearing?

On April 29, 2020, the National Post published photos take by Jade Gosbell, 21. First reported by the Press Association, a person was seen crossing a Norwich recreational area, dressed in the full garb of the infamous doctors whose outfits became a symbol of death.

This supposed Plague Doctor was photographed in Hellesdon, a Norwich suburb, in the United Kingdom.

2016

Something wicked this way came in 2016.

A Plague Doctor, publicized widely on June 24, 2016, in a long black hooded cloak with a beaked mask, shoulder bag and white stick, was seen taunting people in historic Chester, UK. The mystery person was spotted several times by spooked residents, usually at night. YouTube footage was taken at daylight on a section of the Chester's Roman walls, by the River Dee.

In the short clip, entitled "The Chester ChronicleCreepy plague man vid" the person surveyed the river, then headed off in the opposite direction.

Chester-based social enterprise Big Heritage finally owned up to being behind the trick after the story hit the national headlines.

But after the reveal, more sightings occurred, and Big Heritage said they were not responsible. 

Who knows?

Also, it has been observed that Dr. Anthony Fauci is, indeed, a "plague doctor" who appears to be stalking the legacy of President Trump.

In the nearly five years since Donald Trump came down the escalator to declare his candidacy, a set of iron laws has applied to those who enter his orbit.

Rick Wilson, the former GOP strategist who is now a Trump nemesis, summed up the pattern in the title of his best-selling book from last year: Everything Trump Touches Dies. The details vary, but being tempted by Trump has turned into the modern version of the Faust saga. Sunlight Glistens Off Soaring New Towers...

From Afghanistan, President Barack Obama ended his speech delivered on Beltane to Americans with some intriguing imagery. In the context of all that happened on the day, it made complete symbolic obelisk sense. (Italics below are my emphasis.)

As we emerge from a decade of conflict abroad and economic crisis at home, it is time to renew America. An America where our children live free from fear, and have the skills to claim their dreams. A united America of grit and resilience, where sunlight glistens off soaring new towers in downtown Manhattan, and we build our future as one people, as one nation.
Here, in Afghanistan, Americans answered the call to defend their fellow citizens and uphold human dignity. Today, we recall the fallen, and those who suffer wounds seen and unseen. But through dark days we have drawn strength from their example, and the ideals that have guided our nation and lit the world: a belief that all people are created equal, and deserve the freedom to determine their destiny.
That is the light that guides us still. This time of war began in Afghanistan, and this is where it will end. With faith in each other and our eyes fixed on the future, let us finish the work at hand, and forge a just and lasting peace. May God bless our troops. And may God bless the United States of America.

Occupy Beltane: Where's Obama?

Don't tell me that the powers that be aren't aware, moment to moment, of the significance of dates and places.

Rumors circulated all morning that President Barack Obama was in Afghanistan, was missing, and/or was in locations unknown.

The official White House schedule for May 1, 2012, was as follows:

Finally, in the afternoon, the White House Press Office released the correct news: President Barack Obama made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, the first anniversary of the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan. Obama's plane left Andrews Air Force Base just after midnight Monday and arrived at Bagram Tuesday evening Afghanistan time.

The countries have been negotiating a strategic agreement that would outline the basis for U.S.-Afghan cooperation after most U.S. and allied troops withdraw in 2014. Obama and Afghanistan President Karzai signed the agreement on Tuesday, according to the senior administration officials who briefed reporters on the flight. The Strategic Partnership Agreement provides a framework for the U.S.-Afghanistan partnership for the decade following the U.S. and allied troop withdrawal.

Obama is scheduled to make a televised address to the USA at 7:30 p.m. ET.
