Green Painter, Mystery Symbols, Heaven, and Prometheus

What do the painted green symbols mean?

 Tian Jiamel's alleged random act of vandalism may not have been so random.

Christopher Loring Knowles of the Secret Sun blog quite correctly sees these symbols as SoS x2, with dripping green paint.

Why were the sites vandalized specifically picked? 

Green paint was found on Monday morning on the statue of Joseph Henry, outside the headquarters of the Smithsonian Institution. It was at that location where strange symbols or letters (see above) were also discovered. 

What do they mean? Is there any twilight language here?

People are familiar with Abraham Lincoln, the President of the United States, who served from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865, and whose Memorial was first vandalized. But who is Joseph Henry, whose statue was also painted with green and with symbols?

Joseph Henry (December 17, 1797 – May 13, 1878) was an American scientist who served as the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, as well as a founding member of the National Institute for the Promotion of Science, a precursor of the Smithsonian Institution. He was highly regarded during his lifetime. While building electromagnets, Henry discovered the electromagnetic phenomenon of self-inductance. He also discovered mutual inductance independently of Michael Faraday, though Faraday was the first to publish his results. Henry developed the electromagnet into a practical device. He invented a precursor to the electric doorbell (specifically a bell that could be rung at a distance via an electric wire, 1831) and electric relay (1835). Source.

There is something deeper going on here.  

Freemason John Phillips Sousa wrote the Transit of Venus March for the unveiling of the Joseph Henry statue in front of the Smithsonian Castle. One year after the 1882 Transit of Venus, Sousa was commissioned to compose a processional for the unveiling of a bronze statue of American physicist Joseph Henry, who had died in 1878. It was performed on April 19, 1883, at 4:00 P.M.

I blogged about "Sousa's Transit of Venus" earlier on this Twilight Language site. I also pondered how "Venus Transits Sol & Introduces Prometheus."

The most recent Transit of Venus was on June 5-6, 2012, and was almost immediately followed by the June 8th opening in the USA of Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to the mortals. What is being given to us here?

A suspect has been arrested, but she may not reveal any keys to the mystery symbols too soon.

Tian Jiamel was arrested on Monday, July 29, 2013, after the latest incident of splattered green paint was found (see below) at Washington’s National Cathedral. Cathedral spokesman Richard Weinberg said the paint was discovered there about 2:00 pm ET and was still wet.

The green paint was found strewn on the organ console in the National Cathedral's Bethlehem Chapel and inside the Children's Chapel. The incidents may be linked to similar vandalism at Washington's Luther Place Memorial Church and a nearby statue in Washington's Thomas Circle, police reportedly believe. They say paint was discovered on the statue and paint and feces was found on an organ inside the church.

District of Columbia police arrested the 58-year-old woman after two chapels in the Washington National Cathedral were defaced with green paint, who was found close at hand.

Police charged Tian Jiamel (shown above), who has no permanent address, as in, she is homeless, with one count of defacing property.

What is her nationality - Chinese only? Filipino? Vietnamese? What does her name mean?

Tian is one of the oldest Chinese terms for the cosmos and a key concept in Chinese mythology, philosophy, and religion. During the Shang Dynasty (17–11th centuries BCE), the Chinese called their supreme god Shangdi (上帝, "Lord on High") or Di("Lord"); during the Zhou Dynasty, Tian became synonymous with this figure. Heaven worship was, before the 20th century, an orthodox state religion of China.
In Taoism and Confucianism, Tian is often translated as "Heaven" and is mentioned in relationship to its complementary aspect of Dì (地), which is most often translated as "Earth". These two aspects of Taoist cosmology are representative of the dualistic nature of Taoism. They are thought to maintain the two poles of the Three Realms (三界) of reality, with the middle realm occupied by Humanity (人, Ren). Source.

The Chinese symbols for tian appear resemble humanoids from the heavens.

Italian prehistoric petroglyphs from Val Camonica, Italy, allegedly linked to the Ancient Astronauts visitation theory. It is a probable inspiration for the cave paintings shown in Prometheus. 

Tian Jiamel's arrest followed similar vandalism on Friday to the Lincoln Memorial, to a statue near the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall that was discovered with green paint on it Monday, and the Washington National Cathedral on Monday afternoon. Police are testing paint samples to determine whether the three incidents are connected.

The Lincoln Memorial vandalism was a shock to Washington D.C., which does not usually experience such events.

No symbols seem to have been painted on the Lincoln Memorial. Just green paint.

U.S. Park Police investigators were questioning the suspect Monday night, The Washington Post said. Two police officials told the newspaper that federal police had been seeking an Asian female who was possibly homeless, but were having difficulty communicating with her, reportedly, because of a language barrier.

Eileen Moran, VFX Wizard of Prometheus, LOTR, & The Hobbit, Dies

Eileen Moran, one of the industry’s top visual effects producers, and the Oscar-winning special effects wizard who worked on such diverse films as King Kong, Fight Club, Prometheus, and The Hobbit, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in New Zealand, after a battle with ovarian cancer. She was a longtime confidant of director Peter Jackson.

Moran was involved in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and, as the one of the leaders of the Weta Digital team, she won the Best Visual Effects Oscar for Avatar in 2009.

Moran was a co-producer on Jackson’s latest epic, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Moran was instrumental in "building Weta Digital into the most powerful engine for imaginative imagery that ever existed,” said James Cameron.

Moran won an award from the Visual Effects Society for her work on King Kong (2005),  two for Avatar, and was nominated for The Adventures of Tintin.

Her film work included the three Lord of the Rings films, Fight Club (1999), Lake Placid (1999), EDtv (1999), I, Robot (2004), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Eragon (2006), Bridge to Terabithia (2007), Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), 30 Days of Night (2007), The Water Horse (2007), Jumper (2008), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008), District 9 (2009), The Lovely Bones (2009), The A-Team (2010; executive producer: Weta Digital Ltd.), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011; visual effects executive producer: Weta Digital) and Prometheus (2012; executive producer: Weta Digital).

Moran was raised on Long Island and went to the State University of New York at New Paltz, with the notion of being an actor. She moved to Los Angeles, and worked for the late director Tony Scott (who died by suicide this year). She then got into music videos, and ended up at the v/sfx group Digital Domain, owned by Cameron. Her breakthrough work was on a pair of memorable Budweiser commercials featuring digital frogs, lizards, and ants.

In 1991, Moran got an email that changed her life: Jackson was turning J.R.R. Tolkein’s LOTR trilogy into a movie and needed a visual-effects producer. She took the job, moved to New Zealand, and the rest, as they say, became part of her history.

Our condolences to Eileen Moran's survivors include her children, Jack and Ava, and her extended family of friends and fans of her work. 

She was in her mid-50s.

Athena: 2012's First Nor'easter

Did you know the first winter storm of 2012 has been named Athena?

In the wake of "Election Night: Prometheus or Lucifer," the film Prometheus (which opened on June 8, 2012), and its relationship to Blade Runner (see here and here), tonight's storm has lexilinks to Prometheus.

In Greek religion and mythology, Athena or Athene, also referred to as Pallas Athena/Athene, is the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. (Athena's Roman name is Minerva. Both Minerva, New York, and Minerva, Ohio, were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.)

Athena is the virgin patroness of Athens, Greece. The Athenians founded the Parthenon on the Acropolis of her namesake city, Athens (Athena Parthenos), in her honor. The city of Athens and the goddess Athena essentially bear the same name. Source.

When Zeus and the other Olympian gods rebelled against the Titans, Prometheus sided with the gods and thus won their favor. He held Zeus's aching head so that Hephaestus (Vulcan) could split it open and release the goddess Athena. To show her gratitude, Athena taught Prometheus astronomy, mathematics, architecture, navigation, metalworking, writing, and other useful skills. He later passed this knowledge on to humans.
Prometheus created humans by shaping lumps of clay into small figures resembling the gods. Athena admired these figures and breathed on them, giving them life. Zeus disliked the creatures, but he could not uncreate them. He did, however, confine them to the earth and denied them immortality. Prometheus felt sorry for humans, so he gave them fire and taught them various arts and skills. Source.

Not everyone is happy with naming this storm.

While Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy made history books for its destruction, its follow up storm is making history for a different reason: it's name.
The Nor'easter bearing down on New England Wednesday has been given the name "Athena" by the folks at The Weather Channel -- the inaugural name on the list of winter storm names the channel created this season.

As you might have heard, The Weather Channel went on their own and created a policy of naming winter storms in October, figuring a named storm will make communications easier, especially on social media where the storm could become a hashtag.
With "Athena", TWC said the storm meets their criteria for naming the storm due to the possibility of several inches of snow across some areas that were still recovering from Sandy, including the interior sections of New Jersey.
But not everyone is playing along with the idea.
The National Weather Service issued a directive to their East Coast forecasters not to use the name Athena in any of their forecasts or warnings. Read more here.

Election Night: Prometheus or Lucifer

"Big things have small beginnings." ~ Prometheus, 2012

One group of national election night broadcasts constantly showed an intriguing sculpture. What does it mean?

First, let's look at a bit of the background on the setting.

The centerpiece of Rockefeller Center is the 70-floor, 872-foot (266 m) GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza formerly known as the RCA Building – centered behind the sunken plaza. Unlike most other Art Deco towers built during the 1930s, the GE Building was constructed as a slab with a flat roof, where the Center's newly renovated observation deck, the Top of the Rock is located, which was first built in 1933.

This area, the sunken Rockefeller Center plaza, has been renamed "Democracy Plaza" during the Election reporting cycle of NBC. Democracy Plaza has served for the last three elections as the vortex of that network's activity. On Election Night 2012, this Rockefeller location served as a hub for all the NBC News outlets, with NBC, MSNBC, Telemundo and CNBC all anchored or had a presence there. (Source.)

In many of the on-screen shoots, a rivaling image was seen. A golden statue.

If you watched any of these NBC outlets, the centerpiece sculpture was visible on your television or online screen. The acclaimed sculptor Paul Manship was commissioned in 1933 to create a masterwork to adorn the central axis, but its wasn't until December 25, Christmas Day, 1936 that the ice-skating rink was finally installed.

Sculpture Paul Manship's highly recognizable bronze ("golden") gilded statue of the Greek legend of the Titan Prometheus recumbent, bringing fire to mankind, features prominently in the sunken plaza at the front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The model for Prometheus was Leonardo (Leon) Nole, and the inscription from Aeschylus, on the granite wall behind, reads:

Prometheus, teacher in every art, brought the fire that hath proved to mortals a means to mighty ends.

The sculpture is said to be the fourth-most familiar statue in the United States, behind the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty, but Manship was not particularly fond or proud of it. (Source.)

Prometheus (Greek: Προμηθεύς) is a Titan, culture hero, and trickster figure who in Greek mythology is credited with the creation of man from clay. Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to the mortals, an act that enabled progress and civilization. He is known for his intelligence, and as a champion of mankind.

The punishment of Prometheus as a consequence of the theft is a major theme of his mythology, and is a popular subject of both ancient and modern art. Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, sentenced the Titan to eternal torment for his transgression. The immortal Prometheus was bound to a rock, where each day an eagle, the emblem of Zeus, was sent to feed on his liver, only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. In some stories, Prometheus is freed at last by the hero Heracles (Hercules).

It will be recalled that Ridley Scott's Prometheus opened on June 8, 2012, as a major motion picture. I discussed this film and its relationship to Blade Runner (a decidedly Art Deco-stylized film) earlier this year (here and here).

On August 19, 2012, Ridley's brother, Tony Scott died by suicide after he jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge (see here and here, "Divine Sacrifice of the King").

Some conspiracy sites have characterized the Prometheus sculpture as a statue of Lucifer, as they do with other Rockefeller Center artwork, such as Wisdom.

The statue of Prometheus bringing fire down from heaven and giving it to mankind, is one of the most evident pieces of art found on the Rockefeller Center complex. It is a re-telling of the story of Lucifer who offered to mankind the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil....Substitute the name Prometheus for Lucifer, and you will perceive the true substance of this monument. Lucifer was judged by God, not for a benevolent act on behalf of mankind. Lucifer’s fall actually occurred prior to Adam and Eve’s residency in Eden. Source.

What does it mean? Nothing and everything.

Indeed, "Prometheus" was also known as "Pyrphoros" (or "Purphoros," that is, in Greek, "fire-bringer"). "Lucifer" transparently means "light-bringer" - a Latin word meaning the same thing as "phosphoros" (in Greek). The Latinized "Phosphorus" (along with "Hesperus" itself a Latinization of "[H]Esphoros")* is also a alias of Venus (namely, "the morning star"). Venus is sometimes also called the "dawn-bringer," "Eos-phoros" (Greek). And I don't need to tell you that the Roman word for "dawn" is...Aurora.
Note [*] Greek doesn't have a letter that would be transliterated by "h." Rather, Greek has "smooth" and "rough" breathing marks. And the rough breathing mark generates the "h"-phoneme. So the Greek for "evening-bringer" (the root of the name for the "evening star") was "[rough-mark] Esphoros."

2042: LOOM

People wear raincoats even when its not raining. It's dreary. Disease is everywhere. Fashion hasn't changed. There are no rayguns; there's just old-fashioned metal handguns. People still use midcentury modern Navy chairs in lab cafes. Transport units are dirty. It's another "Ridley Scott Presents" view of our future.

Luke Scott's melodrama set in the year 2042 is a 20 minute film that will have you thinking long after it is finished. Loom is being disseminated for free throughout the electronic world.

There is an interesting feeling in the word, "disseminating," and that's why I used it. Just as the engineers in Prometheus seed the Earth with genetic material, you get the sense, as you are watching this film, that some of these images are being seeded.

Loom's director Luke Scott is the the son of Blade Runner director Ridley Scott and the nephew of Tony Scott. This short, which stars Giovanni Ribisi as a lonely, bright, quiet lab gen tech in a future society characterized by human misery, openly owes a stylistic nod to Blade Runner.

The film is being used as a way to showcase a new technology. Luke Scott in cooperation with RED Camera presents Loom, "a film shot completely in 4K format. The film was originally intended to help showcase the prototype REDray 3D laser player. The film was constructed for 3D, the film needed to push the limits of the cameras exposure sensitivity and color range and 4K projection. Visually the film is unmatched to date in it's use of RED's new technology."

The film is shown completely in the HD version posted above. (People at work and youngsters: It has a couple gross scenes of engineered raw meat, which I found more disturbing that the incidental flashes of nudity because the young woman was not completely dressed.)

P.S. It appears, by random and by coincidence, the first time I played Loom, immediately after the credits, I was shown a trailer for Branded (written and directed by Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn). Opening September 7th, Branded is about "unlocking the conspiracy" and seeing what is unseen. It is a remarkable trailer foretelling what might be a synchromystic hit.

Tony Scott Kills Self By Jumping From LA Bridge

"Tony Scott did NOT have inoperable brain cancer, or for that matter brain cancer at all...this according to Scott's family. TMZ has learned ... Scott's wife told investigators the rumor that Tony had inoperable brain cancer is 'absolutely false,'" said TMZ late in the day.

Synchrocinematically significant producer and director Tony Scott, brother of director Ridley Scott, has died due to leaping from an LA bridge on Sunday, August 19, 2012. Tony Scott was a producer on his brother's recent Prometheus, background influence in the important Blade Runner film, and director of blockbuster movies including Unstoppable, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Deja Vu, Man on Fire, Spy Games, and Crimson Tide. He was working on Prometheus II, as well as other movies.

Director Tony Scott, who was the producer on his brother's best known for the films Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop II, died by suicide when he jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, California.

Scott, 68, climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge's apex and leapt off "without hesitation" around 12:30 p.m., according to the Coroner's Department and port police.

A suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge, said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn.

Officers with port police, the Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol joined city firefighters and the Coast Guard in searching the water for his body.

Authorities used sonar equipment to track the man in the port's murky waters and his body was recovered by a dive team around 4:30 p.m., Alva said. Scott's body was taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the county coroner.

"There's nothing to indicate it is anything else at this time," said Lt. Joe Bale of the coroner's office.

Scott, 68, jumped from the bridge that spans the Los Angeles Harbor, connecting San Pedro and Terminal Island. Scott apparently parked his car in the eastbound lanes of the 6,060-foot-long bridge, scaled the barrier fence and leaped.

On October 26, 1990, 1964 Los Angeles Olympics' diving bronze medalist Larry Andreasen was a fatality after he jumped from the west tower of the bridge in an attempt to set a diving record.

The bridge was named in honor of Democratic Congressman Vincent Thomas, a Croatian-American who worked hard to have it built to replace a ferry. The bridge opened to traffic on November 15, 1963.

One of the filming locations (shown at top) in the 1985 movie, To Live & Die in L.A., is the green Vincent Thomas Bridge.

Tony Scott was born Anthony D.L. Scott in North Shields (a location just mentioned by me yesterday here), England, in 1944. Tony Scott got his start as a teenager in films by starring in his older brother Ridley Scott's film Boy and Bicycle. In 1995, the two joined forces to create the production company, Scott Free Productions.

In the 1990s, Scott emerged as a big-budget action film director in his own right, with 1990's Revenge starring Kevin Costner and Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise. In 1998 he directed Enemy of the State with Will Smith and Gene Hackman.

It was on the set of Days of Thunder where Scott met actress Donna Wilson, whom he married in 1994. Tony Scott is survived by Wilson and their twin sons, Frank and Max. My condolences to his family, especially to those twin boys who are now fatherless. (Much has been written about twins and the synchroncinematic threads abound.)
