Future American Military Bases Will Be Attacked

The copycat effect is back.

I have engaged in several decades of working in the realm of mental health hospitals, treatment facilities, juvenile corrections, law enforcement consultations, and academia, before and after earning a graduate degree in psychiatric social work at Boston's Simmons College and doctoral work in social anthropology and family violence. I devoted part of my professional and academic research life to the field of suicide prevention, mass violence prevention, and aligned social policy. Related work in this area has included a study of the influence of media on creating unreasonable expectations. My 2004 Simon and Schuster book, The Copycat Effect: How the Media and Popular Culture Trigger the Mayhem in Tomorrow's Headlines offered what a Kirkus reviewer described as "persuasive and chilling evidence" that acts of violence promoted by media reports "often inspire imitation."

The Copycat Effect and The Media

It is probably not remarkable to accept the fact that when The Copycat Effect appeared, the media (in the form of reviewers with journals, newspapers, and television), in general, ignored the book. In the United States, only one newspaper, the Boston Globe, had a writer take the time to harshly review my book and dismiss the media's influence on extending the violence rampant in their news stories. The international reaction was pointedly different in Canada, and, for example, in South Korea, some open-mindedness to examine the "copycat effect" occurred. Beyond the borders of the USA, the reality of the copycat effect was viewed, where as in the USA, my thesis was ridiculed.

Nevertheless, I knew from private correspondence, in law enforcement circles and among some in the military, there was an understanding of the lessons to be learned by watching the unfolding of mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and related events. Warning signs were clear, if you watched and looked.

Suicide Clusters Based On The Contagion Factor

Since my earlier book, Suicide Clusters (Faber and Faber, 1987) had laid down the foundation of the "copycat effect" via the then widespread clustering of suburban communities' waves of deaths by suicide, the jump in school shootings between 1987 and 2004, gave more evidence of the phenomenon.

After 2004, the skepticism of the existence of the "copycat effect" became less apparent as the growing evidence from broader acts of school shootings and terrorist attacks made the rejection of the  contagion factor not tenable.

The Copycat Effect in the 21st Century

While my book may be forgotten in terms of its academic influence, within popular usage, the term "the copycat effect" could no longer be ignored.

Examples abound of the struggle with the concept and the growing evidence that cannot be overlooked. But the challenge to accept the copycat effect continues up to today. 

The Washington Post published an article, "Yes, mass shootings tend to produce copycats. So do terrorist attacks," December 4, 2015. The piece was by Erica Chenoweth is a Professor at Harvard Kennedy School and a Susan and Kenneth Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. The German media publication DW published a selection entitled "Terrorism and the copycat effect," May 9, 2017, by journalist Julia Vergin. Psychology Today published "Terrorists or Copycats? What's The Difference?" by Sue Kolod, Ph.D., May 3, 2018. Kolod's article even links to the 2017 guidelines for journalists to use in reporting on mass shootings (which hark back to those from the 1980s for reporting on suicide clusters and the 1990s for reporting on school shootings).

The questioning of the "copycat effect" is still around. The National Center for Health Research, before COVID-19 drew most of their attention, published late in 2019 or early in 2020, with a 2020 copyright date, "Does Media Coverage Inspire Copy Cat Mass Shootings?" by Alex Pew, Lauren Goldbeck, Caroline Halsted, and Diana Zuckerman, PhD, National Center for Health Research.

As has been indicated, suicide clusters, school shootings, and mass shootings have been joined by various types of terrorist attacks around the world. These include vehicular terror attacks, especially in Europe.

These articles routinely, when looking at the copycat effect in America, reprint the Mother Jones graphic from data analysis by the Harvard School of Public Health.  These charts track mass shootings from 1982 through 2014. The increase in the waves of mass shootings can be clearly shown, with some familiar names are recognized because of the media attention they received.

9/11 Gap In The Copycat Effect

As I discussed in The Copycat Effect (2004), one of the big gaps in the mass shootings takes place after 9/11/2001. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the mainstream media went into a period of blackout and directed attention. Domestic school shootings was no longer at the top of their media's agenda. The news was focused on terrorism, the events of 9/11, and the new wars against terrorism (including the military actions directed at Afghanistan and Iraq).

The first media attention to post-9/11 mass shootings were not in the USA. Again, as I pointed out in The Copycat Effect, after the Twin Towers and same day attacks, it was over a year without any school shootings and workplace shootings being reported. The "return" of mass shootings was signaled first by international news of school shootings.

After 9/11, the gap in school shootings vanished with February and April 2002 school shootings in Munich and Erfurt, Germany. The death toll of 17 in Erfurt was noted widely in the US. Then there was an April 2002 high school shooting in Vlasenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and another high school shooting in January 2003 in Taiuva, Brazil.

It was not until January 2003 at the Burger King in Pomona, California, with 2 dead; a workplace in February 2003 in Huntsville, Alabama, with 4 dead; and a middle school in April 2003, in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, with 2 dead, when mass shootings were in the news again.

The Copycat Effect in the Time of COVID-19

What patterns can we see developing in a similar fashion in May 2020?

Since early in March 2020, the news media ~ whether via television, social media, newspapers, or radio ~ have almost entirely concentrated their stories (or as it is euphemistically called on cable television: "Breaking News") on two major themes: COVID-19 and President Trump.

The tracking of the number of new cases of the novel coronavirus, the number of deaths, the society's reaction, the economic input, and the government's responses (mostly through President Donald J. Trump's "news conferences") have been the only "news" most people hear.

Now, as the economy and businesses re-open as we move into late May and spring-like weather across the USA, the alert to the copycat effect must be raised.

Notice what has occurred.

International Mass Shooting: 2020

First, there has been an international mass shooting incident that produced media attention.

In Nova Scotia, on April 19, 2020, a 12 hour mass shooting spree ended with the gunman dead. With his victims, 23 including a RCMP officer were dead. See here, for details.

What is happening? Do we need a weatherperson to tell us which way the wind is blowing?

Arizona

On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, Arizona, was hit with a shooting. Three people were injured in the mall shooting on Wednesday night, with one critically, and two with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police in Glendale, Arizona, said on Thursday May 21, 2020, that they had a suspect in custody, 20-year old Armando Hernandez Jr. He used a "black assault rifle." State Senator Martin Quezada identified it as an AR-15.

The suspect told detectives “that he was planning on going to Westgate to harm 10 victims with this horrendous act,” and that it was unclear why the number 10 was chosen. “He said that he went to Westgate to target victims,” the police said. “He wanted to gain some respect and he felt that he had been bullied in his life.”

The gunfire erupted just about 7:25 p.m. local time at the Westgate Entertainment District, where panicked shoppers and store employees rushed for cover. The large outdoor shopping center, which is about 10 miles outside Phoenix, had been closed under a stay-at-home order in Arizona and reopened on May 8.

Texas

On Thursday, May 21, 2020, an apparent terrorist attack occurred at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. The copycat effect exists. Possible future Naval Station attacks should be on the radar of local law enforcement and military police.

A twenty-year-old male named Adam Alsahli of Corpus Christi drove to an entrance at the naval station and shot a security forces member in the chest, hitting the guard in her bulletproof vest and inflicting non-life-threatening injuries. Alsahli then accelerated towards the gate entrance and crashed into a barrier. After exiting the vehicle, he began shooting, and was shot and killed by naval security forces.

The base was put on lockdown after security forces responded to reports of an active shooter around 6:15 a.m. CT, according to the Navy.

A preliminary law enforcement investigation into the shooter has identified him as a US resident who was originally born in Syria, and likely a supporter of Salafi-jihadist ideology. Officials have identified various social media accounts, which initial reports indicate are likely associated with the shooter, the source said. Online postings by these accounts expressed support for ISIS and Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi has been home to Naval pilot training since 1941.

Florida: Copycat Source of 2020's Attack?

May 20, 2020's shooting took place three days after the FBI and Attorney General Barr held a news conference announcing they had found a link between al Qaeda and a Saudi military trainee who killed three US sailors and wounded several others in a terror attack in 2019 on Naval Air Station Pensacola.

Mohammed Said Alshamrani (pictured), a member of the Royal Saudi Air Force who had been training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, was killed by law enforcement during the attack.
The shooter in that attack had communicated with al Qaeda operatives as recently as the night prior to the shooting. His ties to the AQAP began as far back as 2015 and were "significant."

Alshamrani had made anti-American, anti-Israel and jihadi posts on social media -- including one on the September 11 anniversary -- that stated "the countdown has begun," and another two hours before the attack that referenced the words of an al Qaeda cleric. During a 15-minute shooting spree, Alshamrani shot at a photo of President Donald Trump as well as a former president. He made statements during the attack that were critical of American servicemen overseas, the FBI has said.
AQAP had claimed responsibility for the Pensacola attack and said it was in touch with Alshamrani. In February, the White House announced that Qassim al-Rimi, the leader of the group, had been killed in an airstrike in Yemen.

The timing of the Florida attack matched the pattern at the Naval base in Texas. On the morning of December 6, 2019, a terrorist attack occurred at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida. Prior to the attack, at 6:39 a.m. a message on Twitter was posted by a user using the handle @M7MD_SHAMRANI, which declared hate for Americans due to its support of Israel.
The shooting was first reported at 6:51 a.m. when the suspect, armed with a 9mm Glock handgun and several extra magazines, opened fire in one of the classroom buildings. During the incident he moved through two floors of the building, discharging his weapon on both. One of the victims was able to make his way away from the scene to alert the first response team of the location of the shooter amongst other details. The suspect was shot and killed at 7:45 a.m. after two deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office exchanged gunfire with him.

Future 2020 Military Base Attacks?

Military bases in the USA are not the fortresses against penetration that they once were thought to be. The enemy on the outside and inside are causing casualties. As the Mother Jones chart from 2015 testifies, the Washington (D.C.) Navy Yard shooting of 2013 involved a high death toll. In that incident, 13 (including the gunman) died. The Fort Hood shooting of 2009, involved a total body count of 14 (including one unborn child). 

Increasingly, military bases in the US have been the site of active shooter incidents. Between 2000 and 2018, there were 277 active shooter incidents, what the FBI defined as "an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area." In total, 2,430 people were either killed or injured.

From 2000 through 2018, seven of the 277 active shooter incidents were on military property.

During 2019, four of the active shooter incidents were on military bases. These were:

January 1, 2019: On New Year's Day, 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Riley Kuznia was killed by another on-duty Marine at the Washington, D.C., Marine Barracks.

April 5, 2019: At the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a 25-year-old male Navy sailor was killed by base security after shooting a female sailor in the parking lot. The woman was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

December 4, 2019: A 22-year-old active duty sailor killed two people and injured another at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard near Honolulu, Hawaii, according to authorities. The shooter opened fire on shipyard personnel with his M4 service rifle and then used his M9 service pistol to shoot and kill himself.

December 6, 2019: An active shooter was reported at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, on Dec. 6, 2019. Four people, including the suspected shooter, were killed. (Detailed above.)

Warning

With the "re-starting" of active shooter situations in 2020, military bases in the United States should consider the rising rate of incidents at their locations alarming. These location must be on alert and prepared for the impact of the copycat effect in the future.

Look to the special dates and situations that terrorists and terror wannabes will try to match with past incidents, times, and numbers.

Be safe.

Seth, Odessa, Osiris, and Pan

A gunman - begrudgingly identified on September 1, 2019, as Seth Aaron Ator, 36  - driving from Midland to Odessa, Texas, killed seven people while firing from his golden vehicle and then from a hijacked mail truck. The meaning of Seth is: Murdered Osiris. The meaning of Seth is: Anointed; compensation.

Set /sɛt/ or Seth /sɛθ/ (Egyptian: stẖ; also transliterated Setesh, Sutekh, Setekh, or Suty) is a god of chaos, fire, deserts, trickery, storms, envy, disorder, violence, and foreigners in ancient Egyptian religion. In Ancient Greek, the god's name is given as Sēth(Σήθ). Set had a positive role where he accompanies Ra on his solar boat to repel Apep, the serpent of Chaos. Set had a vital role as a reconciled combatant. He was lord of the red (desert) land where he was the balance to Horus' role as lord of the black (soil) land.

The divine model for the ancient Egyptian pharaoh’s rule was the myth of the death of Osiris at the hands of his brother, Seth, and the subsequent contest between Osiris’s son Horus and Seth for kingship over the earth. Through Osiris is the path to the symbolism of "corn."

Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died. Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve. Eve considered him to be a replacement for her dead son, Abel.

Hole In The Wall, from Dalton to Dayton

The actual Hole-in-the-Wall is the pass located in the Big Horn Mountains of Johnson County in northern Wyoming made famous in Western crime history, lore, and movies. The site was used in the late 19th century by the Hole in the Wall Gang, a group of cattle rustlers and other outlaws which included Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch which consisted of Butch Cassidy (aka Robert Leroy Parker), the Sundance Kid (aka Harry A. Longabaugh), Elzy Lay, Tall Texan, "News" Carver, Camilla 'Deaf Charlie' Hanks, Laura Bullion, George "Flat Nose" Curry, Harvey "Kid Curry" Logan, Bob Meeks, Kid Curry's brother Lonny Curry, Bob Smith, Al Smith, Bob Taylor, Tom O'Day, "Laughing" Sam Carey, Black Jack Ketchum, and the Roberts Brothers, along with several lesser known outlaw gangs of the Old West. Jesse James was also mentioned to have visited the Hole-in-the-Wall hideout. The Dalton Brothers (there were 13 of them) were part of the crew too.  The middle Dalton brother William M. "Bill" Dalton also had a career as an outlaw, but he rode with the Wild Bunch. The Dalton Brothers' gangs were related through their mother to the Younger brothers, who rode with Jesse James. The Daltons were active later than and independently of the James-Younger Gang.

The 1880s-1890s' outlaws and desperados met at a log cabin in the Hole-in-the-Wall country which has been preserved at the Old Trail Town museum in Cody, Wyoming. The cabin was built in 1883 by Alexander Ghent.

In present-day Dayton, Ohio, the Hole in the Wall is located next to Ned Peppers Bar, the site of the death of the gunman who had just killed 9 in the streets surrounding Ned Peppers Bar and the Hole in the Wall.

(Intriguingly, in the realm of syncs, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a character named "Rick Dalton" in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Also, there is a Dalton, Ohio, the boyhood home of Christopher Kirkpatrick, one of the founding members of NSYNC. A dive bar in Georgia is called Mike's Hole in the Wall. The Hole-in-the-Wall was a popular saloon and underworld hangout in what is now the South Street Seaport, Manhattan, New York City, during the early-to-mid-19th century.)

The name Ned Pepper is based on the character of the same name played by Robert Duvall in the 1969 film, True Grit, starring John Wayne and Kim Darby. Outlaw "Lucky" Ned Pepper is the head of a gang of outlaws hold up in a Hole-in-the-Wall type of situation in Indian Territory (modern-day Oklahoma). Pepper is killed with a long shot by a young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf, using a Sharps rifle. (In the 2010 remake of True Grit, Ned Pepper is played by Barry Pepper.)

By coincidence, "El Paso," the name of the Texas site of this week's other major mass shooting, means in Spanish, literally, "the pass."

It has been a week of chaos, and a confusing wave of emotions. Some "celebrity" comments have gone haywire in the wake of the shootings. 

Joe Biden, 76, the vice president under former President Barack Obama and current Democratic presidential candidate, on Sunday evening while addressing attendants of a fundraiser in California, referred to the mass shooting as "the tragic events in Houston today and also in Michigan the day before."

During a Monday (8/5/2019) address from the White House, President Donald Trump, 73, shared condolences for the victims "in Toledo," mixing up the Ohio city with Dayton, where nine people were killed and dozens more were wounded on Sunday morning. 

"May God bless the memory of those who perished in Toledo," the president said toward the end of his speech. "May God protect them."

People seemed willing to give both of them a pass, although victims' families and residents of Dayton were not so forgiving.

Astrophysicist and author Neil deGrasse Tyson decided to respond to this moment of national tragedy with a tweet stating "Often our emotions respond more to spectacle than to data." He said we lose more people to medical errors, flu, suicide, and car accidents than to homicide via handguns. The reaction to his statement was seen as insensitive. There have been others.

In the midst of all of this, we all have had to come to grips with the events, and try to place them in context.

Take a moment to read this and take in another's point-of-view of the events.

This is a picture [at the top] of the front of the bar from the Dayton shooting. Apparently there are two bars at the scene, with slightly varying addresses. One is "Ned Peppers," which appears to be now frequented by black people. I gathered this from thread discussions somewhere, where there was also a comment about how a consequence was that fewer white people were going there. As an aside, i've been wondering if Betts (assuming he was The and the Sole shooter) did not target his sister bc of the race of her boyfriend, who i've read was present, and either shot or killed. 

The other bar is called "Hole in the Wall," which is hard not to regard as fun and games black magical punning. This is certainly a feature in some of these events, and that's what i was saying when the almost certainly fraudulent shooting at the "Paradise" California "Borderland" country/cowboy bar occurred. That event seemed to imply larger issues in the american political zeitgeist, as well as coinciding with the Paradise fires (command and control, sleight of hand, misdirection?)...and i wondered if it might have been a kind of twilight language indication of future events along the southern border. I said so, then, or wrote it. This form of operational, memetic language and signage plumbs and exploits common fare symbols and the like. I feel all of this is the sort of thing Ole Dammegard is getting at in his work. This might be why corporations of such obvious, dominant psychological resonance are consistently used: Wal-Mart/Starbucks/Nike/NFL. There is also the legitimate question of Wal-Mart's performing some adjunct role to the state, in terms of FEMA-type centers during disasters, etc. Along these lines, the question of drills always now has to be entertained. 

But i'm writing this just for the idle exercise of getting down and into other people's thinking certain details you could describe as "twilight linguistics" and occult signatures. Repeat numbers, numbers of established significance, calendar dates, obvious memes like "piles of memorial shoes" that evoke the Holocaust and are visually very effective. (Consider that the Holocaust is arguably an example of "what happens when governments/states are paralyzed by inaction...") And I'd suggest that the prominence given in on-scene coverage to the Hooters restaurant near the scene of the Wal-Mart "slaughter" (now the unanimous go-to descriptor for the "13 hours of Terror.") is probably significant, especially considering it looks like Hooters has at some point rebranded somewhat recently. Their owl is highly recognizable now, rather more like a logo than the original icon-sign, if you will. It actually resembles Drake's Ovo-whatever owl, which he in turn lifted from The Bohemian Club. Anyway, it seems to me that the Kennedy maiden's death served as augury, or inauguration for these dire events. The Master Number of her death, 22, is echoed in the 22 age of the slain sister of Conor Betts. They resonate further with one another these book-ends, in that they are both Family: Betts is the alleged killer's own sister, and Kennedy can only ever identify in the minds of Americans as "family." Family to the routinely slain princes and royalty of Camelot. I'll repeat myself by saying that i had already considered Kennedy's unusual death, as well as the burning of the "Crowley" Boleskine house, as dark and contextual phenomena. That was before i noticed that one of the only two squad cars shown in major coverage's aerial footage from in front of the Kennedy compound following her death, was Car Number E237.

The current death toll for El Paso is 22. 

El Paso is supposed to have been the 250th city to have been struck by a "mass shooting." The next day in Dayton, the shooter is said to have had 250 rounds when he attacked in "the Oregon District." 

The address of the Ned Peppers bar is 419 E. Fifth. The owner of the bar, last name Schaefer, was nicknamed "Cowboy" and happened to die on 4-19, just a few months ago, at age 60. For drastic memetic appeal, the front of Hole in the Wall, also owned by Schaefer, was plugged with several bullets, as seen in the pic. Cowboy the proprietor was fond of wearing a white hat. Some researchers have long held that a twilight, secret war is waged along generational lines, between "white hats and black hats," or the cowboys and indians. I do know that there is a crafty para-political war going on and it's become hotter in recent years. The Scalise shooting and Grenfell Tower burning both on Trump's first in-office birthday, and the loose Nukes Hawaii mass-texts, and the Republican congressional train derailing, and the unsettling death of Scalia, and the Epstein Affair: all these things should logically be seen as elements or expressions of this secret warfare. The Maryland Naval Yard shooting some years ago also has that feel. But what are the odds that such a (black magically familiar, with its crude puns and lexical high-signs) particularly-named bar would be the scene of this second-in-two-days shooting, and that its owner would die a few months ago, on a day that matches his business address? This might well sound like speculative foolishness to many people, but they would probably all of them be unfamiliar with the many precedents for this kind of methodology. Ole Dammegard is hip, and so is anyone who felt something was strange about the "Absolute Terror" signs (or whatever precise language it was) on the London Buses, on 7/7...which were situated very close to the Tavistock Institute. 

As i've also said repeatedly, their often seems to be conscious nuggets of Christian symbolism or just references in many of these events or whatever we wish to call them. Even allowing for cultural bias in the designation of people and place names, many of the particulars and the perps in these stories resonate Christ and Christianity. The name "Crusius" almost certainly is a derivative of Cross or "crux." Its utter uncommonness is interesting, and is a name only possessed by long-dead Protestant theologians, as far as i can tell. One flagrant example of this is the name Cruz from Parkland, and it's of added peculiarity, perhaps, in that case, when one considers that county's demographics. "Schaefer" means "shepard." Conor is the first name of the Dayton alleged shooter, and it means "dog." Patrick is the first name of the El Paso alleged shooter, and it means "noble, patrician." I suppose that's interesting, at least. 

Some folks have pointed out that there was a 666-day span between Las Vegas and the Garlic Festival. Coverage of that case often included no less than three separate mentions of the number 19. Those who are deeply into this seeming, weirdly reliable numbers matrix have discovered that one of this weekend's shootings came 911 days after Obama's 666 months on earth. 

I simply feel that those who are looking to patterns that in fact contain augury are on the right path. Personally i thought we were going to be in for it this summer based on the man who burnt himself to death at Ellipse Park, wearing a USA basketball jersey. And that the ensuing drama was going to be supernal-themed, maybe epic, surely involving the concerns and forces of the zodiac and the larger cosmos. I felt it meant that things were going to get hot Politically. And those people who have connected these late events to the absurd blackout in that high occult staging grounds of a city, New York, (as opposed to old York, with its old clubs) are also probably on the right path. How within any semblance of reason could NYC get a blackout on the 42nd anniversary of its last epic blackout, and this new one affects "42,000" people, and its area of effect constantly intoned and reported as including 42nd street? The number to explain everything, indeed. Some people on YT, at least, felt that this blackout was ominous augury, simply bc that 1977 blackout (and there rises the specter of ol Aleister C once again, a sort of patron saint to NYC, even since he roamed its streets as a propagandist for British Intelligence in advance of WWI, so unwanted by Americans. Until they had been tricked by various psy-ops and violent para-political operations at sea.).....bc that blackout preceded and involved the Son of Sam killings. So some people expected there to be mass shootings soon, etc.. I'm sure that i've left something of coy numerical significance out. (Remember in this vein of dreaming, the Beyonce Super Bowl "allegedly half-timeshow-induced" half-blackout, plunging One Half of the stadium into the dark.) 

But i can inform you that Netflix, another corporation doing its game part, produced one of their True-Crime docus on that incident with the pizza deliverer who got his head blown off by a device in a totally bizarre circumstance. The cop car arrived on the scene of his demolition had an interesting squad car designation, easily viewed from the aerial footage. It's number was the exact same as the date of the event itself. This was only an attempt to discuss or highlight esoteric data points: there is plenty of a more staid, forensic nature to make your nose wrinkle over this weekend's events.

And they promoted the messages left by the Manson Family.

We have been told by books such as the above that Charles Manson ordered up a spate of murders to jump-start a racial Armageddon that would lead to him running the country. Manson called for a war against black Americans by racists, a movement that he referred to as "Helter Skelter." He ordered his followers to kill Hollywood whites and put the blame on California blacks. Some have rejected Vincent Bugliosi's theory, and feel Manson was merely out to steal money.

In the meantime, while Roman Polanski left his wife Sharon Tate alone in 1969, he was in London to work on the film, The Day of the Dolphin. After the tragic events of August 9, fifty years ago, Polanski abandoned the project. The resulting cryptopolitical movie, changed from the book’s simple nonfiction-based John C. Lilly plot (who was tied to rumors of CIA work with his dolphins), appeared as Mike Nichols’ 1972 motion picture.

(The film is produced by Joseph E. Levine, the great-uncle of my friend Philip Levine, an intellectual astrology author. It is amazing how close these dots can fall sometimes.)

The God of Hellfire Cancels

The Christchurch attacks had a soundtrack. The gunman Brenton Harrison Tennent  decided what he wanted to have playing as he killed and killed and killed.

The livestream had the sounds and the media identified the music for those who were unaware.

...he picks up his gun, storms into the mosque, and cuts down one innocent life after another.
When it is over, he climbs back into his car, where he has left his music playing — the song Fire by the English rock band The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. And right after the singer bellows, 'I am the God of Hellfire!' the gunman drives away.

But Arthur Brown has some choices to make too.

Arthur Wilton Brown was born on June 24, 1942 ~ St. John's Day, which is associated with fire, and which would be the date of the birth of flying saucers five years later in 1947. Brown is an English rock singer and songwriter best known for his flamboyant theatrical performances, resulting in his creation of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. His signature lyric from his wildly popular song Fire is "I am the God of Hellfire and I bring you fire." 

In the 1980s, Brown moved to Austin, Texas, where his wife was from, and obtained a master's degree in counselling. He moved back to the U.K., and then back to Austin, where he has been living for several years.

On the night of the Ides of March 2019, Brown performed at Austin's Empire Garage, ending with his 1968 song, Fire.

In New Zealand, the killer Tarrant livestreamed (without permission) as he murdered Muslims, Fire, also on the March 15, 2019.

As I noted here, Brenton Tarrant's name literally means "flame" + "thunder," and thus rather close to "Hellfire."

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, Arthur Brown was due to give a live appearance of at Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas. But he cancelled and posted this:

As co-writer and performer of the song Fire, and creator of The God of Hellfire persona, I would like to express my horror and sadness in the use of Fire, in an act of terror in New Zealand. My heart goes out to all the victims and families of victims of this atrocity – and to all the communities affected.
I should like to say that I support no group or individual that uses terrorist tactics and killing as a means of dealing with other beliefs than their own.
I believe that all religions reach for the same root in the human being. I believe all people of all colours and all races deserve equal respect. I also believe that all people have a duty of care towards each other and all creatures on this earth.
OUT OF RESPECT for the victims of this horrifying act in New Zealand and following the advice of respected local authorities, I have decided to CANCEL the 'instore' performance at WATERLOO RECORDS in AUSTIN tomorrow. Source.

Phillip Crabtree Dies By Suicide

Phillip Shane Crabtree, 18, of Texarkana, Texas died by suicide, on June 27, 2018. He was born January 12, 2000 in Texarkana, Texas.

Phillip Crabtree is survived by his father, Nick Crabtree, of Texarkana, TX, and mother and step-father, Kim Parsons and Todd Howell. His grandparents, Dottie and Earnest Crabtree, of Helenwood, TN, his grandfather, Tommy Strunk of Winfield, TN, an Aunt, Valerie Lamb of Muncie, IN, cousins, Cassidy and Brittney Lamb, of Muncie, IN, and many other members of the Parsons family.

Services are scheduled for Monday, July 2, 2018 at 2 PM at Texarkana Funeral Home – Texas Boulevard, with Rev. Charles Bell officiating.

The family will receive friends at 1 PM, prior to service, for visitation.

Phillip Crabtree was a Christian and worked as a Carpenter’s Helper.

On Facebook, Pamula Pierce posted "So sad for family friend, Nick Crabtree, who lost his 18 year old, only child, Phillip, to suicide last week, and whose funeral is today....Phillip took his life in front of his Dad."

Pamula Pierce's father is Charles Pierce (June 16, 1938 – March 5, 2010), the writer/director of The Legend of Boggy Creek (1973). Charles Pierce continued directing films into the 1980s, when he wrote the story for the Clint Eastwood film Sudden Impact. For that screenplay, he is said to have written the phrase, "Go ahead, make my day," which became one of the most famous movie quotes in history.

Pamula Piece and her mother were cast as actors in The Legend of Boggy Creek. Craig Woolheater shares that Pam "and her mother [are] in the scene where the kids saw the monster and the mom ran the kids back in the house."

For the Boggy Creek film, Pierce used members of the Crabtrees in front of and behind the camera.

The communities of Fouke, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas, are interwoven, and there are lots of Crabtree relatives. It appears that Philip, Nick, and Philip's grandparents, Dottie and Earnest Crabtree, may have been related to Smokey Crabtree's side of the family. But members of Smokey's family do not feel there is any relationship. Perhaps there are two branches of the greater Crabtree family living in the Texarkana-Fouke area?

What we do know about Smokey's extended family can be learned via their obituaries.

Julius E. "Smokey" Crabtree, 88, died on January 16, 2016, in Fouke, Arkansas. Smokey had outlived one of his sons, Tommy, who was killed in a welding pipe explosion in 1987, and relative Karen Sue Crabtree, 50, who was killed in a car wreck in 2009. Also, Smokey’s wife Melva died June 11, 2005.

Smokey's official obituary recorded that "He was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Crabtree and Lynn Crabtree, and a grandson, Jeremy Knight. Survivors include his wife, Fran Crabtree of Fouke, Arkansas, two sons and daughters-in-law, Travis and Mary Crabtree of Mt. Dora, Florida, and Jay and Toni Crabtree of Texarkana, Arkansas, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and John Knight of Sparkman, Arkansas, ten grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren."

Other Crabtree deaths followed. Brent Crabtree was the son of James Lynn Crabtree, who died in 2011. Lynn, as he was called, was the second eldest son of Smokey Crabtree, who died a few months after Smokey. Authorities in Miller County, Arkansas have confirmed they found the body of a man reported missing in July 2016. According to the Miller County Sheriff’s Department, the body of 39-year-old Brent Crabtree was found just after 5 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, in a wooded area not far from Crabtree’s home.

James Lynn Crabtree, 60, of Fouke, Arkansas, died April 20, 2011, in a Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Crabtree and a nephew, Jeremy Knight. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Neal and Gena Crabtree and Brent and Courtney Crabtree of Fouke, Arkansas, four grandsons, Carson, Chance, Trenton, and Camden Crabtree of Fouke, Arkansas, his mother, June Crabtree of Fouke, Arkansas, his father, J. E. (Smokey) Crabtree of Fouke, Arkansas, one sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and John Knight of Sparkman, Arkansas, one brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Mary Crabtree of Mt. Dora, Florida, one sister-in-law, Paula Crabtree of Fouke, Arkansas, three nieces, Raynee Perry, Toni Pilgreen, and Starr Rawlinson, and two nephews, John Knight, III, and Jason Knight.

Karen Sue Crabtree, 50, of Fouke, Arkansas, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, in a Shreveport, Louisana, hospital of injuries from an automobile accident. Mrs. Crabtree was born Feb. 6, 1958, in Texarkana, Texas. She was a convenience store clerk (specifically, of course, at the Monster Mart).

Survivors include her husband, Harold Crabtree of Fouke; two sons, Jonathan Crabtree of Texarkana and Brandon Crabtree of Fouke; one sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Doel Harvin of Fouke; her mother-in-law, Lillian Crabtree of Fouke; one special aunt, Doris Sanders of Fouke; and a number of other relatives.
