Three Dead: The Minnesota-UCLA Incidents

There has been a shooting on the campus of UCLA on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. Pacific time.

Reports are that three gunshots were heard in Engineering Building No. 4. Two people were first said to be injured, but by 11:30 a.m., LAPD said they were dead.

The FBI and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were responding, the agencies said. The Los Angeles Police Department was placed on citywide tactical alert and sent hundreds of officers to the Westwood campus and surrounding neighborhoods around 10:30 a.m.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, law enforcement officials told The Times.

According to the Daily Bruin, the shooter was wearing a black jacket and black pants.

Sean Lynch, the son of a professor who works in the engineering building, was exchanging text messages with his father as the campus was placed on lockdown. Lynch said his father was in a colleague’s office and heard three gunshots, but did not see the shooters.

Whether this is a murder-suicide or a shooting of two males with an unknown suspect still on the loose is unclear from the LAPD news conference held at 11:35 a.m. Pacific.

Campus police, however, are reporting a suicide note and a handgun have been found at the scene.

Several sources identified the victim as William S. Klug, 39, a father of two who studied the interaction between mechanics and biology.

The suspect in the shooting of a UCLA professor has been named as PhD candidate Mainak Sarkar. The victim was Professor William Klug. He was a teacher in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, according to his official bio on the school’s website.

Sarkar was first named in a report by CBS News. He was a native of Minneapolis and had a PhD in solid mechanics from UCLA.

Sardar, which is Indian (Bengal) and Bangladeshi, is a Hindu name found in several communities, from a title based on Persian sarkar "chief," "superintendent," "lord." Mainak generally means "a mountain, a Himalayan peak," and is of Indian origin. A person with the name Mainak are mainly Hindu by religion.

Klug is an ancient German surname first recorded in the early 14th century, at the beginning of the use of hereditary surnames, in Europe. Recorded as Klug, Kluge, Kluger, Klugmann, Clugel, and the diminutive Clugelin, it originates from a pre-7th century word klouc meaning "noble" or "refined." In German, the meaning of the name William is "resolute protector" and "will."

Ashley Hasti, 31, whose last Facebook photo with Sarkar dates back to 2011, has been confirmed as a student at the University of Minnesota Medical School and a former tutor at North Hennepin Technical College. She did not appear to be Facebook friends with Mainak Sarkar at the time of her death.
In a 2013 Facebook post, Hasti wrote “Second year med school is great and all, but I keep having dreams where I’m being diagnosed in the doctor’s office with the disease I’m studying.”
Brooklyn Park police discovered Hasti’s body at 12:35 a.m. Thursday (June 2, 2016) after her name was found on a “kill list” Sarkar left in his St. Paul apartment. She died of an apparent gunshot wound, according to a Brooklyn Park police official.
Hasti first enrolled at the University of Minnesota Medical Schol in 2012. In 2008, she received a bachelor’s degree from the U in Asian languages and literature, a U spokesman said. Source.

44th President Syncs With Four Oaths

The 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama is a man of symbolism. Perhaps no other number is more synchromystical in his life that "4."

President Obama takes his 4th oath of office for the President of the USA, on January 21, 2013, the symbolically significant Martin Luther King Day.

Obama was born on August 4, 1961. He married Michelle Robinson on October 3, 1992.

The couple's first daughter, Malia Ann, was born on July 4, 1998; followed by a second daughter, Natasha ("Sasha"), on June 10, 2001.

Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago and was a civil rights attorney until 2004. He served as a representative in the Illinois Senate until November 4, 2004. In 2004, Obama was elected to the United States Senate for Illinois. 

On November 4, 2008, Obama won the presidency with 365 electoral votes to 173 received by John McCain. 

Barack Obama is sworn in on January 20, 2009, for his first term. The first time.

On June 4, 2009, Obama delivered a speech at Cairo University in Egypt calling for "A New Beginning" in relations between the Islamic world and the United States and promoting Middle East peace.

On the 4th of April (the fourth month), 2011, Obama announced his re-election campaign for 2012 in a video titled "It Begins with Us" that he posted on his website and filed election papers with the Federal Election Commission.

At noon today, January 21, 2013, President Barack Obama will have taken the oath of office for the presidency four times for his two terms.

It is to be recalled that on January 21, 2009, the day after the inauguration of Barack Obama, Chief Justice John Roberts re-administered the constitutional oath of office to Obama in the Map Room (the oath having been flubbed in the ceremony the previous day).

Latrobe designed many buildings around Lafayette Park, including the highly symbolic Stephen Decatur House.

Mothman-Latrobe

Intriguing footnote: In 1848, newly appointed president Thomas Swann and Chief Engineer Benjamin Latrobe sent surveyors to chart a route through the then-Virginia mountains west of Cumberland. Mason County, West Virginia and Point Pleasant, West Virginia - Mothman Country - were first surveyed and charted by Latrobe's surveyors. On January 20, 2013, @anomalistnews floated a news bulletin throughout Twitterland that President Barack Obama had taken his first oath this year on a copy of The Mothman Prophecies. An inappropriate silly joke, perhaps, but one in which there is a strange link to the factual "redo swearing in" of January 21, 2009.

The Number 4

The number of order in the universe is 4—the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water; the four seasons; the four points of the compass; the four phases of the Moon (new, half-moon waxing, full, half-moon waning).
