Anthony Bourdain and Joy Division

Asia Argento is Anthony Bourdain's girlfriend. On Instagram, she is shown with a Joy Division poster in the background.

Joy Division was a Manchester UK group, named after a Nazi term for the sex slaves unit that served Germany's World War II-era soldiers.

In "The Hanging of Ian Curtis: A Legacy of Copycats," I consider the links between hanging suicides of Curtis, Chris Cornell, and Chester Bennington.

BTW. In Paul Montgomery's "Anthony Bourdain Joins the Court of Owls," posted July 14, 2012, there is this:

Chef, travel writer and Get Jiro! author Anthony Bourdain has joined the Court of Owls. Or maybe he’s just trying to shop the con floor incognito using one of those free masks from this week’s Batman panel. Either way, it’s a hoot.

Perhaps Mike Clelland, the author of The Messengers: Owls, Synchronicity, and the UFO Abductee, could tell us more about this?

Bourdain certainly syncs with other hanging suicides.

Robert Damon Schneck, author of the original story that inspired the film entitled The Bye Bye Man (2017), points out that the main character "Elliot" (Douglas Smith) wears a Joy Division shirt. (Schneck had nothing to do with the design and production of the film.)

In the film, the "Bye Bye Man" tries to get "Elliot" to die by suicide.

The Bye Bye Man is also about mass shootings, the name game, and more. Principal filming for The Bye Bye Man took place in Cleveland, Ohio, from November 2, 2015 to January 13, 2017.

Douglas Smith told Robert Schneck that "his favorite part of the movie was that the character wore a Joy Division shirt." (Schneck, Correspondence, June 14, 2018).

Three Dead in Virginia

White nationalists, neo-Nazis and members of the "alt-right" clash with counter-protesters as they enter Lee Park during the "Unite the Right" rally August 12, 2017 in Charlottesville, Virginia. After clashes with anti-fascist protesters and police the rally was declared an unlawful gathering and people were forced out of Lee Park, where a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee is slated to be removed. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla)

The suspect being held in a Virginia jail in connection with a deadly crash near a scheduled rally of white nationalists was identified late Saturday, as James Alex Fields Jr., 20, of Maumee, Ohio, according to Superintendent Martin Kumer with the Albermarle-Charlottesville County Regional Jail.

Fields was being held on suspicion of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and failure to stop in an accident that resulted in death.

Pilots Lt. Jay Cullen, 48, (l.), and Berke M.M. Bates, 40, (r.), died in a helicopter crash while monitoring the violent clashes in Charlottesville, Va. (Photo: Virginia State Police)

The chopper was hovering low over houses before it went down roughly two hours earlier in a wooded area near the Birdwood Golf Course, the Daily Progress newspaper reports.

Cox Deaths, Another Voice Killing, and Red Dawn Coming

Famed Australian award-winning filmmaker Paul Cox died Sunday, June 18, 2016. He was widely recognized as "Australia's most prolific film auteur."

Paul Cox

"Cox's delicate films have been pockmarked with life's uncertainty. Loneliness within relationships is a staple of the Cox oeuvre, too," said his filmmaker collaborator and friend David Wenham.

Paul Cox was born Paulus Henrique Benedictus Cox on April 16, 1940, in Venlo, Limburg, the Netherlands, the son of Else (née Kuminack), a native of Germany, and Wim Cox, a documentary film producer. He is remembered for his documentaries like Vincent (1987), and his personal, lonely narrative fiction films, which in recent years, have mirrored his own challenges with a liver transplant.

Paul Cox's death followed by two days the assassination in West Yorkshire, UK, of Jo Cox, the British Labour Party Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen.

Jo Cox

Helen Joanne "Jo" Cox (née Leadbetter) was born on 22 June 1974 in Batley, West Yorkshire, England, and raised in Heckmondwike. Her mother was a school secretary while her father worked in a toothpaste and hairspray factory. She was educated at Heckmondwike Grammar School, a state grammar school, where she was head girl. During summers, she worked packing toothpaste.

On June 16, 2016, Jo Cox was shot and stabbed multiple times in Birstall, West Yorkshire, England, shortly before she was due to hold a constituency meeting. A 52-year-old man, Thomas Mair, shouted "Britain First!" during the attack. Thomas Alexander "Tommy" Mair (Mair meaning "Mary") was born August 12, 1963 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. He was arrested in connection with Cox's death and subsequently charged with murder and other offenses. Mair, charged in the killing of Jo Cox, stated his name as "Death to traitors, freedom for Britain" to UK Court.

The claims that Mair had allegedly bought a number of manuals from an extremist group in the US was uncovered by the Southern Poverty Law Centre (SPLC), a civil rights organization in the US. It said Mair made the purchases between 1999 and 2003. Receipts for items also included Ich Kämpfe, an illustrated handbook issued to members of the Nazi party in 1942.

Cox appears to derive from the hills found in Carmarthenshire, Wales, where Cox may have been a topographic name for a man "from the red hills." The meaning appears derived from cock or coch, and means "from the hills," or from cocc, which means "the little," or derived from coch, meaning "the Red." Other forms point to the English, from Cocke in any the senses described + the suffix -s denoting "son of" or "servant of" Irish (Ulster), mistranslation of Mac Con Coille ("son of Cú Choille," a personal name meaning "hound of the wood"), as if formed with coileach "cock," "rooster," the bird that heralds the dawn!

The recent wave of violence in Orlando began, you will recall, when singer Christina Grimmie, 22, who gained fame as a contestant on television singing contest The Voice, was hit by three shots at a concert in Orlando, Florida, on Friday, June 10, and died on June 11, 2016. (For twilight details, see here.)

On Friday, June 17, 2016, Attrell Cordes, better known as Prince Be from the '90s R&B duo P.M. Dawn, died at 46 from kidney disease. "Literally a Dawn Prince," Robert Sullivan writes me.

On Saturday, June 18, 2016, another former contestant on the singing contest The Voice, the Mexican version, died after earlier being shot in Illinois. The death on Saturday of Alejandro "Jano" Fuentes, 45, was confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. The singer was shot three times in the head late Thursday in an ambush outside the Tras Bambalinas School, his performing arts studio on Chicago's southwest side.

Grimmie had been shot three times in the head too.

Alejandro means "defender," "protector of mankind."

Jano is a form of John, "the grace or mercy of Jehovah," "favor of the Lord."

Fuentes is a Spanish surname meaning, "a spring," "a well," "a fountain."

Various images of Orlando's logo are based on their famed Lake Eola Park fountain.

Yesterday, I wrote of the potential for another Red Dawn on June 20th.

Less we forget, St. John's Day/Midsummer's Day revisits us again on June 24th. I have written extensively about St. John's Day associations in 2015, and 2012. Being the anniversary of the "first" sighting in the "modern era of flying saucers," the date of June 24th is especially linked to the "Deaths of Ufologists," including a loss as recently as 2015.

On Thursday, June 16, 2016 (6.16.16), Marco Rubio ("Mars Red") took his first flight on Air Force One with President Obama to Orlando, to meet the families of the victims of the Pulse shootings.

A red greeting in...

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and her husband Chuck Franco, left, greeted President Barack Obama, followed by daughter Malia Obama, on the First Family's arrival in Roswell, New Mexico, Friday, June 17, 2016. The Obama family was traveling to Carlsbad Caverns National Park to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the creation of America's national park system.

Okay, over the weekend, President Obama was in Roswell, New Mexico, and Donald Trump held a fundraising meeting in Barry Goldwater's old Arizona home, ''Be-nun-i-kin,'' which is Navajo for ''house on top of a hill."

Be-nun-i-kin

Trump goes to dedicate a golf course in Scotland, leaving on June 22, and opening the course on the 24th.

Certainly, my readers are feeling "something" in the air too:

Twilight language analyst Enki King wonders about
...the release date of Helen Reddy’s 1973 cover of Delta Dawn? The song popped into my head earlier, and the combination of "Dawn" in the title and "Red" in the recording artist’s name strikes me as being possibly significant, especially since the recent Red Dawn shooting rampage at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub on the day of the Tony Awards drew attention to Reddy’s soft rock contemporaries Tony Orlando and Dawn. If the release date happens to be June 20, your prediction of a Red Dawn event on June 20 of this year would be reinforced. An event related to the word “Delta,” like a crash or hijacking of a Delta jet, might even be expected.
Mysteriously, no exact release date is to be found during our mutual search for Reddy's version of Delta Dawn, other than "June 1973."

But this morning, Enki writes, a film studies associate found the date: "Delta Dawn was released as the first single from the album on June 11, 1973, debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 later that month, in the issue of the magazine dated June 23, and enjoyed 20 weeks there, one of which was at number one."

Joe Mehl writes, noting that
...some things have jumped out at me regarding the Swiss tunnel ceremony leading up to the events in Orlando. The date 6.12.2016 can be summed up as 6.12.18 or the succession of 666 which no matter how you cut it the date eventually breaks down to a 9 root number for the date. I think the combination of the luciferin celebration on 6.1.2016 with a 7 root leading up to the George H W Bush Birthday of the Orlando Massacre (ritual blood sacrifice) Orlando has deep roots with Disney's love affair with the lore of the evil deity. Also I unfortunately think that the child who was snatched by an Alligator is also symbolic and connects to the tunnel ceremony (path to the grave). I would assume 6/21/2016 being the next succession of the root 9 will be a continuation of this "summoning" Regardless of my numerical hunches about the dates, I think the root problem here is that these massacres are not put into perspective for what they really are a continuation of. Anyway, I'm not drawing any conclusions but I think your summation of the Solstice Full Moon being a volatile ticking bomb are worrisome.
Joe also mentioned the Wounded Knee Massacre, which was on my mind heavily, as well, yesterday, as I pondered the Orlando events and their Sebastian-Fort Pierce links to the Boston Marathon, during my time at the Portland Pride Parade with my wife Jenny.

I am having strong angry First Peoples thoughts, of late, for a variety of reasons.

Just in - Chris Kraska sent this my way, after reading the above: "Loren's post reminded me of this tidbit about the Orlando shooting victim in the conspiracy theory story" from the New York Daily News:

The photo was snapped on the day Carter [a Pulse shooting survivor] was discharged from the hospital. She wore a pair of red, rhinestone “Dorothy” slippers on her feet and wrote in the pic's caption that there was “No place like home.”
Villarreal, after reading the above, sent this along:
Ritchie Blackmore has started touring again with "Rainbow" in Germany, as of 6/16/16. He opened the show with Dorothy saying, "We're not in Kansas anymore." And, "There's no place like home."
I also saw a promo poster for Rainbow with a yellow brick road.
Ties into your post today about the ruby slippers.
Ritchie has been gone from rock for 19 years.
I expect a weird week ahead. It feels like the purple rain has moved on to be another red dawn.

(Thanks for other thoughts from Joe Mehl, Enki King, Robert Sullivan, Chris Tian, Steve Lindsay, Theo Paijmans, Robert Schneck, Nate Arthur, Andrew West Griffin, Villarreal, and many more. It is a stirring time.)

Did The Nazis Steal Christmas?

In recent years, the topic of Nazis and Christmas has been re-visited a few times. Why?

Swastika Christmas tree ornaments, "Germanic" cookies and made-up traditions: A new exhibition highlights how the Nazis tried to take Christ out of Christmas. But their attempts to hijack a festival that began with the birth of a Jewish child weren't entirely successful.

Read...here.

If the Nazis were sworn enemies of Christianity, why were they so obsessed with Christmas? And how did they square celebrating the season of goodwill with their racialist policies?
And read on here.

Breivik Copycat Arrested

by Loren Coleman ©2012

A 29-year-old copycat of Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik, who wanted to carry out a similar attack, has been arrested in the Czech Republic.

Police announced on Saturday, August 18, 2012, that they detained the unidentified man on August 10th in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Authorities were alerted to his plan because he used the name Breivik in e-mail correspondences. Law enforcement official searched the man's apartment and discovered an assault rifle, ammunition, explosives and police uniforms. The man's plot involved the denotation of "a large explosive device crafted from an aircraft bomb and was in possession of a remote control detonator when he was arrested," reported the BBC and other media outlets.

The history of Ostrava is intriguing as being an important location on the prehistoric trading route for the transfer of fossilized tree resin (made famous in Jurassic Park) called the Amber Road. Also, please pay attention synchromystic researchers, the Greek name for amber was ἤλεκτρον (elektron), "formed by the sun," and it was connected to the sun god (Helios).

In 1763, sizable deposits of black coal (from the Old English term col, which has meant "mineral of fossilized carbon" since the 13th century) were discovered, leading to an industrial boom and a flood of new immigrants in the following centuries. During the 19th century, several mine towers were built in and around the city and the first steel works were established at Vítkovice, acquired by Salomon Mayer von Rothschild in 1843. Industrial growth was made possible by the completion of Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn from Vienna in 1847.

Anders Behring Breivik is on trial for killing 77 people -- eight in the bombing at a government building in Oslo, Norway, and 69 others on nearby Utoya Island -- July, 22, 2011. (This was same day that the film Captain America was released in the USA, with a scene of an attack of Nazis in Norway; see more on "Predicting Aurora" here.)

Breivik has admitted to the bombing and machine gunning down of mostly teenagers at the annual summer youth camp of the governing Labor Party. Breivik's war against multiculturalism and, what he termed, "the Muslim invasion of Europe" has been spelled out in his manifesto, entitled “2083 – A European Declaration of Independence.”

Last August 2011, the Anders Behring Breivik story involved new reports that he had cosmetic surgery to look more Aryan. Breivik could not have had his blond hair, blue eyes and chiseled features naturally, according to Janne Kristiansen, head of the Norwegian Police Security Service, that country's version of our FBI, who told that to The Sunday Times of London.

"You do not have that Aryan look naturally in Norway," Kristiansen said. "[Adolf] Hitler would have had him on posters. He has the perfect, classic Aryan face. He must have had a facelift."
The same day as Kristiansen's insights, the London Sunday Telegraph quoted a former classmate of Breivik as saying Breivik, boasted in the late 1990s, that he had plastic surgery to look more Aryan.
"I remember we were at a party, and he told me he had had his nose and chin operated on by a plastic surgeon in America," the unidentified school buddy said to the media about this new strange twist.

What is bizarre about all of this is that Norwegians are viewed as rather Aryan.

Why was Kristiansen saying such things? Indeed, she (shown above) looks Aryan. Was her statements in 2011 disinformation?

Wikipedia picks up the next part of the story of Kristiansen by noting she was forced out in 2012:
Janne Kristiansen resigned as PST leader on 18 January 2012 following an open hearing of the parliament's 22 July Committee that same day where she had been summoned to answer questions about Norwegian security and intelligence work. This unfolded after she had answered a direct question from Member of Parliament Akhtar Chaudhry (Socialist Left Party) during the parliament's (Storting) questioning of her. The question was whether Norway has cooperation with Pakistan in the intelligence arena, and Kristiansen's reply was interpreted as a confirmation that the Norwegian Intelligence Service (military intelligence) had in fact a presence in that country. Both the two major news agencies in Norway, however, have written that representatives from the Norwegian Armed Forces have confirmed the presence of the Intelligence Service abroad on a number of previous occasions. This would make it uncertain whether confidential information was revealed during the hearing. In March 2012 police investigations of Kristiansen were dropped by the Bureau for the Investigation of Police Affairs.

In the wake of Breivik's July 22, 2011, attack, at least one other copycat arrest has surfaced, according to UPI:
A reputed member of the English Defense League could be charged with making online threats of an "Oslo-style" bombing aimed at Muslims, police said.
Police in South Shields did not release the name of the man arrested Saturday [April 21, 2012], The Journal of Newcastle reported. But he was identified online Monday [April 23, 2012] as Kenny Holden, 29, of South Shields.
The threat was made on Facebook pages linked to the EDL, investigators said. Holden allegedly said he would carry out the "Oslo-style" attack in South Shields.

Munich: 40 Years Ago

The Olympics' Munich massacre occurred 40 years ago, on September 5-6, 1972, from 4:30 a.m. through 12:04 a.m. local time. The target was the Israeli Olympic team.

The Munich massacre is an informal name for an attack that occurred during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Bavaria, in southern West Germany, when members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually killed by the Palestinian group Black September. Shortly after the crisis began, they demanded the release of 234 prisoners held in Israeli jails, and the release of the founders (Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof) of the German Red Army Faction, who were held in German prisons. Black September called the operation "Ikrit and Biram," after two Christian Palestinian villages whose inhabitants were expelled by the Haganah in 1948.

The attackers, who were given logistical assistance by German neo-Nazis, killed eleven Israeli athletes and coaches and a West German police officer. Five of the eight members of Black September were killed by police officers during a failed rescue attempt. The three surviving assassins were captured, but later released by West Germany following the hijacking by Black September of a Lufthansa airliner. Israel responded to the killers' release with Operation Spring of Youth and Operation Wrath of God, during which Palestinians suspected of involvement in the massacre were systematically tracked down and killed by Israeli intelligence and special forces. The Israeli operations killed one innocent in Norway and four passersby in Lebanon, with 18 others injured during the killing of Ali Hassan Salameh.

A rescue effort was attempted by the ill-prepared German authorities. It failed miserably.

Initial news reports, published all over the world, indicated that all the hostages were alive, and that all the attackers had been killed. Only later did a representative for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suggest that "initial reports were overly optimistic." Jim McKay, who was covering the Olympics that year for ABC, had taken on the job of reporting the events as Roone Arledge fed them into his earpiece. At 3:24 a.m., McKay received the official confirmation:
We just got the final word ... you know, when I was a kid, my father used to say "Our greatest hopes and our worst fears are seldom realized." Our worst fears have been realized tonight. They've now said that there were eleven hostages. Two were killed in their rooms yesterday morning, nine were killed at the airport tonight. They're all gone.

420 Again

What does "420" mean? April 20th? Or something deeper?

I first wrote and posted this on April 20, 2007. It seems appropriate to reprint it on the 10th anniversary of the Columbine tradegy.

High school student Jeff Weise, an Ojibwa, killed ten, including himself, at the Red Lake Ojibwa Reservation in Minnesota, on March 21, 2005. A great admirer of Columbine, it was discovered that Weise left references to Columbine throughout his online presence. For example, he employed a username, which translated to "Abandoned 420."

Columbine and 420

Obviously, one meaning of "420" is directly linked to the Columbine date, as "4/20" is April 20, the anniversary of the Littleton, Colorado shootings. This date is also Adolf Hitler's birthday. The Columbine shooters, Klebold and Harris were extremely conscious that it was Hitler's birthdate, and often spoke German to each other, while walking around in long black trench coats, videotaping themselves.

Copycat Weise left messages on such sites as nazi.org. Weise wore a dark trench coat to school all year round, and had a swastika fascination, a symbol used by both First Nations people and Nazis. In one of Weise's online profiles, he noted that two of his favorite movies were Elephant and Zero Day, based on the events of the Columbine High School massacre.

Jeff Weise virtually haunted the Neo-Nazi Internet forum of the Libertarian National Socialist Green Party under the aliases NativeNazi and Todesengel (German for "Angel of Death"). He admired Hitler, his posts revealed. Weise also alleged online that his school was warned in 2004 that someone was going to "shoot up" the school on April 20, the birthday of Adolf Hitler and the anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, and that the school authorities "pinned" the threat on him.

But Weise sometimes would sound almost typical. For example, on one of his user info pages, he said he was "nothin' but your average Native American stoner" and mentioned that he used marijuana. After Columbine, one oft-repeated story circulated that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were upset by an unfounded accusation made by an anonymous classmate that the two had brought marijuana to school, prompting a search of their property. Harris and Klebold were said to have found the incident humiliating.

The Other Meaning of 420

The use of "420" for almost four decades is related to the use of marijuana.

4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) is a term used in North America as a discreet way to refer to cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis culture. Phrases such as "420 friendly" sometimes appear in roommate advertisements, indicating that the current occupants are tolerant of cannabis users.

It is widely accepted that in 1971, a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, calling themselves The Waldos, used to meet every day after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue. The term became part of their group's salute, "420 Louis," and it eventually caught on more widely. Many cannabis users continue to observe 4:20 as a time to smoke communally. By extension April 20 ("4/20" in U.S. dating shorthand) has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis.
Source: Wikipedia

It was the research of Steven Hager, editor of High Times, who found the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School in 1971, among the Waldos. A quote from one of the Waldos in the article notes, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420."

Adolf Hitler, marijuana, Columbine: For copycats, 420 appears to have served as a reflective mirror. For the rest of us, 420 may reflect a dangerous combination that has resulted in terrible memories that now reach beyond the mere date of April 20th.

2009 Update:

Todd Campbell's blog adds an interesting new footnote to the "420" decoding research.

It appears in the H. P. Lovecraft short story, "In the Walls of Eryx" (1939), one of the characters smokes a strangely familiar plant, experiences some visual sensations, and then he "looked at [his] watch and was astonished to find that the time was only 4:20. "

While the origins of the time of 4:20 is tied, allegedly, to when detention students were released at San Rafael High, and then the Waldos would meet and smoke, could one of the well-read students have been aware of Lovecraft's story too?

P. S. - Please give me the intellectual respect to understand this is not an anti-drug message, but one about awareness of the twilight language behind code words like "420" in one shooter's message. To think this is as an anti-marijuana blog is as illogical as thinking I am going to let myself get involved in the quicksand of a pro-gun-control vs pro-gun debate. Blaming drugs, guns, video games, and the long list of candidates seems to ignore what's happening in the imprinted mind of the suicidal potential school shooter.
