Wayne Name Game Has Tragic Ending in Orlando

The victims of another "Wayne" killer.

Within the "weird news" field, it has been a well-known truism that if a criminal has a middle name of "Wayne," no one in the newsroom is surprised he is being charged with murder. The examples are multiple. The most famous case, of course, is John Wayne Gacy.

An early correspondent of mine, Chuck Shepherd, has been a student of the Wayne "name game" for years. Here's what Chuck says about it, in an introduction to the topic:

The Classic Middle Name

It only occurred to me in the early 1990s that "Wayne" was a popular middle name among a few of the most heinous murderers of our time, e.g., the clown John Wayne Gacy (who killed almost three dozen boys and young men in the late 1970s and buried most of them beneath the floorboards of his Des Plaines, Ill., home) and Elmer Wayne Henley (sentenced to six consecutive life terms in 1974 in Houston for his role, with ringleader Dean Allen Corll, in the murders of 27 young men). I began to publish periodic lists in 1996, and soon readers made sure I never missed a one that made the news. Source, plus his impressively long list of names.

Orlando's Wayne Name Game

The most recent example occurred the day before the second anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre that left 50 (including the perpetrator) dead in Orlando, Florida.

It all began early on Monday, June 11, 2018, when 35-year-old Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr., a felon who was on probation for arson and other charges, shot a police officer in the eye. This occurred at an apartment complex, 4932 Eaglesmere Drive, off Kirkman Road, near Universal Orlando. Officer Kevin Valencia was wounded and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was in critical condition after surgery but expected to survive.

A standoff lasted nearly 24 hours, and it ended when Lindsey apparently shot the children he had taken as hostages — ages 1, 6, 10 and 11. No names of these victims have been released.

The gunman Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. was discovered dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a closet when officers entered the apartment between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Eastern time, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a news conference just before midnight.

A Date to Watch: August 5, 2016

Update on 7.27.16: Various items in the universe are aligning for August 5, 2016.

It is the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Petrovaradin or Peterwardein, a decisive victory for Austrian forces in the war between Habsburg Monarchy of Austria and the Ottoman Empire of August 5, 1716, at Petrovaradin (then part of Military Frontier, Habsburg Monarchy; today part of Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia). This was the beginning of the end of the Ottomans. After the war, a church commemorating this event was built on Tekije, on the hill over battlefield, and is dedicated to Our Lady of Tekije, also known as Our Lady of the Snows. The church is special, because it has both Catholic and Orthodox altars and both Christian denominations use it. The site is a place of pilgrimage on every August 5.

After the battles that defeated the Ottomans, they had lost most of their European domains 300 years ago. Viennese bakers celebrated their deliverance with what came to be called the croissant, a pastry in the shape of the Muslim crescent. Take a bite out of Islam?

The 100th anniversary of the August 5, 1916, World War I, Battle of Romani, in which the Allied forces, under the command of Archibald Murray, defeat an attacking Ottoman army under the command of Friedrich Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein, securing the Suez Canal and beginning the Ottoman retreat from the Sinai Peninsula.

It is the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony of The World Trade Center of August 5, 1966.

The 2016 Olympics opens in Brazil on August 5, 2016.

John Hinkely, Jr., who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, appears scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016.

The film Suicide Squad will be opening in wide release on August 5, 2016.

Even close to my home, the Lumineers will be giving the summer's biggest sold-out concert (thousands of people) at Thompson's Point, Portland, Maine, on August 5, 2016.

It will be the first anniversary of the Antioch movie theater shooting of 2015, and the 4th anniversary of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin shooting of August 5, 2012.

San Bernardino, Orlando, Dallas, Nice. It is a regular happening, mass deaths. The line of events is now long. It goes back for years. Lone gunmen, terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and even cars & trucks into crowds. What is next on the horizon?

Remember Friday, July 20, 2012? James Holmes opened fire on the patrons at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, just as The Dark Knight Rises began, killing 12 and injuring 70 others. The night was the premiere evening for the film. (See also here, here, and here.)

Do you recall the trailer that ran before the movie that night in Aurora? It was Gangster Squad, and it showed a movie theater being shot up with machine guns. That scene was later taken out of the actual film before it was released.

But the Aurora shooting did not happen in a vacuum. There were precursors. As I wrote a year ago, will the "Next Movie Shooting: August 5, 2016?"

What quickly followed was rather remarkable.

On Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Grand 16, in Lafayette, Louisiana, an unidentified 59-year-old male opened fire on a crowd of viewers at Trainwreck. On July 24, 2015, I wrote about that in "Fayette Factor Hits Movie Theater."

On August 4, 2015, I warned of the anniversary syndrome with regard to the Lafayette shooting. 

We are coming up to the two-week anniversary for the Trainwreck/Lafayette shooting, always a dangerous window. The date for that anniversary - Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
People should watch out.

Besides Lafayette/Fayette, should we look to other "power name" locations or people*?

My 2015 prediction came to pass for August 5, 2015. I wrote:

On August 5, 2015, my recent forecast came true. Two-week anniversaries are significant. (And four-week, one month cycles, are, as well. That upcoming date is Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Predictive future forecasting is simple. What people do with it, remains problematic. At least, the copycat effect is now not disbelieved, as it was a mere dozen years ago when I wrote my book.)...
The predicted theater incident occurred exactly two weeks after a shooting at a showing of Trainwreck in Lafayette, Louisiana. The hatchet attack and air pistol shooting resulted in the death of the attacker and the injury of three patrons of the theater.

The movie that was playing at the time was Mad Max: Fury Road....

The 2015 event took place at the Carmike Hickory 8 Cinema in Antioch, Tennessee, around 1:15 p.m. The gunman at the Hickory Hollow Cinema, Vincente David Montano was allegedly armed with a hatchet, pepper spray, an Airsoft gun, and a fake bomb. He reportedly was wearing a surgical mask. He was shot dead by a SWAT team as he exited through the theater's rear door.
It happened on Bell Road, a power name mentioned here often. See also here and here....

But now, the one year anniversary will soon be upon us.

This is not "fear porn." This is using forecast to heighten awareness.

As I said on a recent 42 Minutes podcast interview with Sync Book's William Morgan (7.14.16 #235), people walk around in a fog. I am here to splash some water in some faces to attempt to prevent disasters. 

The movie Suicide Squad opens on Friday, August 5, 2016. Is it subconsciously broadcasting the kinds of messages to those who might shoot up a movie theater? Will it trigger the kind of shooting that we have come to almost (but not really) take for granted in the climate of violence today?

Suicide Squad takes place in a post-Superman world, following the events of Dawn of Justice, as the government grapples with how to respond the next time an alien visits Earth with less noble intentions than the Man of Steel. The answer, according to ruthless intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), is to recruit society’s most vile criminals, armed with lethal skills and superhuman powers. Her first target is possessed archaeologist June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).
Waller’s program doesn’t get a green light, though, until Midway City is threatened by a powerful mystical enemy, and Waller needs to activate the whole squad of prisoners. The baddies get a break. Deadshot (Will Smith) has his Second Amendment rights reinstated, Harley (Margot Robbie) is carefully excised from her birdcage, Diablo (Jay Hernandez) is released from his own fireproof fortress of solitude, Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Slipknot (Adam Beach) strap their weapons back on, and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is popped from his swamp. The one condition for their restricted freedom: Obey orders or die, a rule strictly enforced by squad leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), his samurai Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and the explosive devices inserted into their necks courtesy of Wayne Enterprises. Throwing a wrench into all these plans is the tatted Gotham City arch-criminal, the Joker (Jared Leto), and his laser-like plan to reunite with his true love, Harley, mission be damned.
But a funny thing happens while these scumbags try to become heroes – they each must absolve themselves of their crimes even if society won’t. And that’s where it gets interesting. A layer of humanity – and sadness – resides underneath these characters’ stories as they each grapple with whether they can be redeemed.

*What names to watch?

In Jim Brandon's 1983 book, The Rebirth of Pan: Hidden Faces of the American Earth Spirit, he wrote, regarding the "name game":

I'm not talking here of such spooky tongue-twisters as H.P. Lovecraft's Yog-Sothoth or Arthur Machen's Ishakshar, but of quite ordinary names like Bell, Beall and variants, Crowley, Francis, Grafton, Grubb, Magee/McGee, Mason, McKinney, Montpelier, Parsons, Pike, Shelby, Vernon, Watson/Watt, Williams/Williamson. I have others on file, but these are the ones which I have accumulated the most instances.

In my 1983 Mysterious America, I observed, besides John A. Keel and Charles Fort:

Cryptologic or coincidence? Jim Brandon should be credited with calling attention to the name Watts/Watkins/Watson, and its entanglement with inexplicable things. Some other names involved in mysterious events pinpointed by Brandon are Bell, Mason, Parsons, Pike, Vernon, and Warren. The influence of such names as Mason, Pike, Warren, and Lafayette, for example, issues, in some cryptopolitical and occult way, from their ties to the Masonic tradition.

In the wake of the deaths from the gunning down of Christina Grimmie and 49 people at Pulse, now Orlando, Florida, has been shocked by an alligator attack.

Beyond seemingly any sense of reason, sync or coincidence, this has occurred:

"14 June 2016. A two-year-old boy [on vacation with his family from Nebraska] was dragged into the water by an alligator near a Disney World hotel in Orlando - despite his desperate father's attempts to wrestle his son from the reptile's jaws. The boy was dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon near the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa around 9.20pm on Tuesday."

The face of the Orange County Sheriff's department, Jerry Demings, so familiar from multiple news conferences on the Pulse attack, was there again, before cameras, to share what he could on the search for the toddler.

The "family was out simply relaxing,” Demings said. “They were wading at the water’s edge when the alligator attacked the child.”

Demings said the toddler’s father struggled with the alligator to try to save his son, “but was not successful.” The mother also went into the water after the boy.

The family alerted a nearby lifeguard that an alligator had attacked the child. The family, who were visiting from Nebraska, were staying at the Grand Floridian, Demings said.

There are "No Swimming" signs at the lagoon and no one else was in the water at the time of the attack besides the child, Demings said.

This body of water is not for recreational swimming "likely for that very reason," the reason being alligators.

"This is Florida and it's not uncommon for alligators to be in bodies of water," he said.

Declan Salcido, who's on vacation with relatives from San Jose, California, was coming back from the animal kingdom when the first ambulance arrived just after 9:15 p.m. ET.

He said there are many "No Swimming" signs near the lagoon visible "from any vantage point."

At a 4:35 pm news conference on June 15, 2016, Sheriff Jerry Demings announced that the toddler 's body was recovered intact and identified as Lane Graves. He and his parents, Matt and Melissa Graves are from Elkhorn, Nebraska.

The name Lane is English and is from a surname meaning "lane, path," which originally belonged to a person who lived near a lane.

The name Graves, like Grimmie, are overtly associated with death, cemeteries, and dark matters.

The surname Graves is an occupational name - from the Middle English greyve and Low German greve meaning "steward" or "person in charge of property." 

"The serfs in the English manors usually elected one of their number annually to oversee their work for the lord."

The earliest origins of the name Graves date back to the Anglo-Saxons, where the baptismal name Reeve is a surname that refers to son of Reeve. The surname Graves also referred to manager or overseer as an occupational surname.

Elkhorn is a neighborhood on the western edge of the city of Omaha, Nebraska, with a  population of 6,062 for the 2000 census. Elkhorn is from the "horn of the elk," or "antler," originating from the names of the local Native American groups there.

In my twilight language book, The Copycat Effect: How the Media and Popular Culture Trigger the Mayhem in Tomorrow's Headlines (NY: Simon and Schuster, 2004), I noted:

The summer of 2001 began quietly enough, with local newspapers in Florida talking about some deathly events, which before it was over, had everyone wondering if every lagoon in the Sunshine State was crawling with human-eating alligators. At first, the stories were only of local interest. On May 4, 2001, an 8-foot alligator in a Venice pond killed Samuel Wetmore, 70, near his home in Sarasota County, Florida. On June 23, 2001, little Alexandria Murphy, 2, wandered from her Winter Haven back yard, then was dragged into Lake Cannon in Polk County, Florida, by a 6 1/2-foot gator and killed.

Then all hell broke loose, with the media engaging in epidemic reporting, taking up the thread of 'gator and crocs as the next big new threat on the horizon. Alligators were popping up everywhere. By the end of that month, I had accounts crossing my desk of out-of-place caimans, alligators, and crocodiles being seen and caught in downstate New Hampshire (a 2.5 ft caiman), Central Park New York City (a 2 ft caiman), and on the same day, June 27, 2001, from Buffalo, New York (a 4 ft alligator caught) and off an island in the middle of the Rhine River, Germany (a 5 ft “crocodile” sighted but not caught).

The alligator attacks concentrated in Florida, however. On Sunday, July 1, 2001, a human arm that “appeared to have been bitten” off by an alligator, was found in a canal west of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The rest of the body could not be found. A sort of high sad comedy was reached when the Florida papers published this kind of remark from a member of the Broward County Sheriff’s Department: “We're sure if they survived and they're missing a right arm, they would have come forward by now. Detectives have no idea what happened with this body part, whether it was some sort of accident and the person was eaten by an alligator and this is what's left.”

During the next week in July, echoes of the Florida ‘gators were heard in the Midwest again. Authorities were reporting the sightings of three alligators near Andrews, Indiana, in the Wabash River close to the Highway 105 bridge. No one was hurt but armed officers were trying to locate the critters.

Back in Florida, Tammy Woehle, 22, was out walking her dog, Lady, before dark, on Big Talbot Island, near Jacksonville, when an 8-foot-long alligator attacked her, according to a report from July 9, 2001. The gator grabbed and ripped part of the muscle out her leg, and pulled her to the ground. The news accounts almost made you feel the gator was a sneaky bastard because it crept up to her as she stood on a sandy beach, away from the water’s edge and away from high grass. She escaped with a six-inch wound on her thigh. Before the attack, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had held a news conference to calm the public. They had noted that the seven alligator attacks in Florida in 2001 were slightly below average. Talk about bad public relations timing. The media would have nothing to do with it. The Woehle attack was widely reported, and it was clear to the public, from what they were hearing in the press, this was a dangerous summer. Then drumbeats announced that a much more sinister danger was lurking just offshore.

A few pages later, I wrote:

Ellen Steele, 81, heard the screams of her 81-year-old husband Robert on September 11, 2001, and couldn’t do anything to save him. But most people never heard about Robert, and how an 11-foot-long alligator near Sanibel, Florida, fatally attacked him as he walked his dog that day. There was something much larger on the media horizon that day. On September 11, 2001, four jet airliners, with Flight 11 being the first, were involved in the largest single homicidal-suicidal effort in history to bring bloodshed, death, and terror to the core of American society.

When the media proclaims and leads their stories with announcements that the 6.12.2016 Pulse shooting is "America's deadliest mass shooting," and variants like that, they are setting up the next act of violence.

The psychological need to increase and compete in the body counts is a media-driven phenomenon. I discussed this in my book, and throughout my writings for a dozen years.

Fifty-nine were killed, 53 have been hospitalized, and the shooter was killed.

Breaking: Local and federal law enforcers noted at a 7:15 am Orlando news conference that there were "multiple fatalities," perhaps as many as 20 dead. Reportedly 42 injured were sent to the local hospitals. The gunman may have had Islamic terrorist "leanings," according to the FBI spokesperson.

Omar Mir Seddique (or Saddiqui) Mateen has been named as the gunman who killed as many as 20 people and wounded 40 others at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, CBS and NBC News reports. He was later killed by police after taking hostages at the LGBT club. Mateen, 29, is a U.S. citizen from Port St. Lucie, Florida, according to CBS News. He has ties to radical Islamic ideology, CBS reports.

Both of Mateen’s parents are originally from Afghanistan, according to CBS News.

Mateen was born in New York, NBC News reports.

He was married in 2009, public records show. It is not clear if he was still married at the time of the attack.

Mateen is a registered Democrat who has also lived in Fort Pierce, Florida, according to online records.

Florida Senator Bill Nelson says, according to intelligence committee staff, Mateen has ties to ISIS.

Mateen called 911 at the time of the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS, a U.S. official tells CNN, and mentioned the Boston bombers in the call. He had been investigated by the FBI in the past for possible ties to Islamic extremism, officials say, but there was no evidence to charge him with anything. ISIS sympathizers have praised the attack on jihadi forums.

Mir is Muslim (common in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India), from a title of Persian origin, a short form of Arabic Amir "prince," "commander."

Siddiqui is a family name or surname meaning "The Truthful" in Arabic. Siddiquis are spread all over the world mainly Asia Pacific and Europe. Siddiquis are generally considered to be the descendants of the first Muslim Caliph Abu Bakr as-Siddiq of the Rashidun Caliphate (The four Rightly guided Calips).

Mateen is a Muslim name meaning "powerful, and thus, for example, variants like the name Abdul Mateen is a Muslim name meaning, "servant of the firm," "strong."

The day after singer Christina Grimmie died from an Orlando shooting, a Florida gay club in the same city has erupted in gunfire. The Orlando club named Pulse was the 2 a.m. target of a long-gun attack and possible hostage situation early Sunday, June 12,  2016.

Multiple injuries are reported. "Mass casualty situation" is what it is being called. Some reports said 250 have being hit, with at least 42 have been sent to hospitals.

"Everyone get out of Pulse and keep running," the club posted on its Facebook page.

Pulse describes itself as "the hottest gay bar" in the heart of Orlando. Hours before the shooting, the club urged partygoers to attend its "Latin flavor" night Saturday.

Ricardo Negron Almodovar said he was in the club when the shooting started about 2 a.m.
"People on the dance floor and bar got down on the floor and some of us who were near the bar and back exit managed to go out through the outdoor area and just ran," he posted on the club's Facebook page.

Reports of a someone with a gun, a long gun, holding hostages are coming in. At almost 6 am, CNN says the shooter has been found dead inside the club. He had been holding several people hostage. Thirty hostages were freed when the police shot the gunman dead, at 5:00 a.m.

Police are holding updates at Orange and Gore, near Pulse.

Pulse is located at 1912 S Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32806, which is four miles from The Plaza Live, where the Christina Grimmes shooting occurred on June 10, 2016.

This is the beginning of a month of gay Pride events that are celebrated with parades and parties throughout the various gay communities in the USA.

The New York police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn (a gay club), located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, resulted in the “Stonewall riots” and ultimately, to the Gay Pride movement.

Other notable June 12 events:

* 1994 – Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman are murdered outside her home in Los Angeles, California. O.J. Simpson is later acquitted of the killings, but is held liable in wrongful death civil suit.

* 1963 – Civil rights leader Medgar Evers is assassinated in front of his home in Jackson, Mississippi by Ku Klux Klan member Byron De La Beckwith.

* 1943 – Holocaust: Germany liquidates the Jewish Ghetto in Brzeżany, Poland (now Berezhany, Ukraine). Around 1,180 Jews are led to the city's old Jewish graveyard and shot.

Grimmie Killed; Killer Identified

Breaking News: The killer has been identified. See below.

Singer Christina Grimmie, 22, who gained fame as a contestant on television singing contest The Voice, was hit by three shots at a concert in Orlando, Florida, on Friday, June 10, and died on June 11, 2016. She was fired upon as she was signing autographs.

At the June 10, 2016, the group Before You Exit flashed the devil horns and projected their signature symbol, as Grimmie sang. According to the Before You Exit website, their "band’s name [was] inspired by the sentiment 'make a difference before you exit.'" It also uses the phrase, "many short lived...artists."

Striking an Illuminati All-Seeing-Eye pose, Grimmie presented her new hair style before going on concert with Before You Exit.

Grimmie was an American singer and songwriter, best known for participating in The Voice and for her covers of hit songs by contemporary pop musicians. In June 2011, she released her debut EP, Find Me.

Grimmie was signing autographs with band members of Before You Exit, with whom she performed earlier, when a gunman approached and opened fire (three shots were reported) before her brother tackled him at the Plaza Live music venue. The Orlando Police Department said her brother's action saved others' lives.

The suspect (as yet unidentified) then turned the gun on himself and died by suicide. The suspect is a 21-year-old white male from another Florida city (not Orlando).

Grimmie placed third during the 2014 season of the The Voice, a singing competition on NBC.

Her full name was Christina Victoria Grimmie (March 12, 1994 – June 11, 2016).

The name Christina is a Latin name, meaning "Follower of Christ." She had told reporters previously she was a Christian.

Victoria, you will recall as noted in my recent "Nervous Nick" posting, is aligned with the origins of Nicholas, via Nike. The mythological Nike was a Greek goddess of victory and root origin of Nicholas. The Roman equivalent was Victoria.  Therefore, the meaning and forms are related. Victoria is the Latin word for "victory" or "conquer" and is used as the feminine form corresponding to the name Victor. In Roman mythology, Victoria was the name of the goddess of victory, corresponding directly to the Greek goddess Nike.

Grimmie is a variant of the name Grimm and Grimme.

Of some fame in popular culture currently, Grimm is an American police procedural fantasy television drama series, according to Wikipedia. It debuted in the U.S. on NBC on October 28, 2011. The plots involve homicide investigator Nick Burkhardt of the Portland (Oregon) Police Department who learns he is descended from a line of guardians known as Grimms, charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world called Wesen, the German word for being or creature. Throughout the series, he must battle against an assortment of dangerous creatures, with help from his Wesen friend, Monroe, and his partner, Detective Hank Griffin.

Wesen (German, "a being" or "creature") is a collective term used to describe the creatures visible to the Grimms. They are the basis not only of the fairy tales that the Brothers Grimm have compiled, but also of the many legends and folklore from many cultures (i.e. Anubis, Aswang, Chupacabra, and Wendigo).

Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2016, the Orlando Police identified the gunman who shot Christina Grimmie as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl.

The name Loibl is German (Bavarian) from a pet form of the personal name Leopold (As per Leopold). Leopold is from the French (Léopold), German, and Dutch, from a Germanic personal name, Luitpold, composed of the elements liut “people" + bald “bold," “brave." The form of the first element has been influenced by Leonard. The surname is also borne by Ashkenazic Jews, in which case it is an adoption of the German forename as a surname. Leonard is English and French (Léonard), from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements leo “lion" (a late addition to the vocabulary of Germanic name elements, taken from Latin) + hard “hardy," “brave," “strong," which was taken to England by the Normans.

FBI Killing Of Tsarnaev Associate Will Fan Conspiracy Theories

UPDATE: Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev participated in a 2011 triple homicide outside Boston along with a Chechen killed Wednesday during a confrontation with the FBI and Massachusetts State Police in Orlando, Florida, a federal law enforcement official told CNN.

Ibragim Todashev not only confessed to his direct role in slashing the throats of three people in the killings in Waltham, Massachusetts, he also fingered Tsarnaev in the deaths, the official says.

Breaking news regarding the death of Ibragim Todashev is disturbing.

I realize we live in conspiracy-driven times, but I would think if the FBI and other federal agencies wanted to avoid stimulating more spin, they would attempt to build in safeguards against things like this happening.

A man fatally shot last night, May 21, 2013, by the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Orlando, Florida, was being interviewed for a possible connection to the Boston Marathon bombings, a U.S. law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the case told CNN and other media outlets.

The FBI has confirmed that the man killed is Ibragim Todashev who lived at 6022 Peregrine Avenue.

The shooting happened overnight in the Windhover apartment complex off Peregrine Avenue near Kirkman and Vineland roads.

Ibragim Todashev knew both of the Tsarnaev brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar, the official said.

The FBI agent shot Todashev in self-defense in an incident at Todashev's house.

Agents were led to Todashev, who had once lived in Boston, "through investigative leads," the official said. Todashev was from the Chechnya region, as were the Tsarnaev brothers.
