Thirteen people died in a fire late Friday [August 5, 2016] night in northern France when fire broke out in a bar full of patrons celebrating someone's birthday, according to reports. The fire was started by an accidental explosion in a bar known as Au Cuba Libre in the town of Rouen in Normandy.

The number of dead climbed to 13 on early Saturday, according to Paris-Normandie, a local news website.

At least six people were wounded, according to reports.

The bar was full of young people celebrating someone's birthday, officials said. (We are waiting for the release of the victims' names and will update this info.)

This explosion at the Cuba Libre bar in Rouen, France is quite sympropinquitous because its location is exactly 4.00 miles NNW of the Church of Saint Etienne du Rouvray where the Catholic priest was murdered at Mass 10 days ago.
Both the church and the bar are very close to the left bank of the Seine River which really snakes through that area of France.
The name of the bar Le Cuba Libre is not a political sentiment, but rather the name of a drink, the one that we in the USA call a “Rum and Coke.” It was invented in 1901 in Havana by American sailors during the Spanish-American War
The bar was located on Avenue Jacques Cartier, named for the great 16th C French explorer who claimed what is now Canada for France.
The 13 fatalities were all young people between the ages of 18 and 25 who were celebrating a Reunion-themed birthday party in the basement.

A new update on the cause of the fire and more from Tom Mellet:

There was no explosion. Birthday candles on a cake started the fire.
Report from a French official:

 . . . the fire was completely accidental. There was no explosion . . . Candles on a birthday cake started the fire after the person who carried it tripped on the stairs leading to the basement” . . . sound-insulating material on the basement's walls quickly ignited and party guests had no time to escape from the basement.

All 13 fatalities were young people between the ages of 18 and 25. They probably all died from smoke inhalation, not burns, as did a 19 year old woman named Joan on May 30, 1431 at a location in Rouen across the Seine River exactly one-half mile!!! north of the Cuba Libre bar at a place called Vieux Marché (the Old Marketplace). 

This proximity is such a tight sympropinquity that I will now measure distance in yards, not miles.

From the Cuba Libre bar, walk 220 yards North on Jacques Cartier Ave. to arrive at the left bank of the Seine River where you cross the Joan of Arc Bridge for 150 yards to reach the right bank where the name becomes Joan of Arc Street. Proceed 500 yards north, make a left on Rue Rollon for 220 yards and you arrive at the spot of Le bûcher the stake where Joan met her fate.

Eyewitnesses described the scene of the execution by burning on 30 May 1431. Tied to a tall pillar at the Vieux-Marché in Rouen, she asked two of the clergy, Fr Martin Ladvenu and Fr Isambart de la Pierre, to hold a crucifix before her. An English soldier also constructed a small cross that she put in the front of her dress. After she died, the English raked back the coals to expose her charred body so that no one could claim she had escaped alive. They then burned the body twice more, to reduce it to ashes and prevent any collection of relics, and cast her remains into the Seine River. The executioner, Geoffroy Thérage, later stated that he "greatly feared to be damned.” Source.

Where have we seen a “tall pillar” before? And in relation to the French? Yes, the tall red pole pictured on Loren's post here from July 17 that represents the discovery by the French explorers in 1699 which gave the name to the capital city of Louisiana: Baton Rouge.

Rouen (Latin: Rotomagus) is a city on the River Seine in the north of France. It is the capital of the region of Normandy. Formerly one of the largest and most prosperous cities of medieval Europe, Rouen was the seat of the Exchequer of Normandyduring the Middle Ages. It was one of the capitals of the Anglo-Norman dynasties, which ruled both England and large parts of modern France from the 11th to the 15th centuries.

In the 2001 movie A Knight's Tale, the protagonist William Thatcher (played by Heath Ledger) poses as a noble and competes in his first jousting tournament at Rouen.

At least 42 people were injured when a fence collapsed during rapper Snoop Dogg’s concert in New Jersey Friday night, authorities said.

The incident in Camden on Friday night (August 5, 2016) sent fans over the ledge at the outdoor BB&T Pavilion around 10:25 p.m. ET, fire officials said.

Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa were performing at the time.

USA Today reported that the

...iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated Friday night [August 5, 2016], then French police said it was a false alarm, according to Reuters and other media reports.
Armed police and soldiers searched tourists and had cordoned off the area, the U.K.'s Daily Star and Daily Mirror reported. Witnesses posted a series of images and videos on social media of the evacuation.
The Braderie de Lille annual flea market, which attracts visitors from across France and scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4, was canceled for security reasons, Martine Aubry, the mayor of the northern French city announced earlier Friday. It is the latest summer festival to be canceled in the country due to a fear of terror attacks.
The country has seen a spate of attacks in the last 18 months, including the attacks in Paris in November that left 130 dead, the attack in Nice in July that left 85 dead [the total went up from the earlier 84] and the murder of a French priest in Normandy last week.

Twitter reports talk about an out-of-place backpack or misplaced piece of luggage near the Eiffel Tower, as the cause of this alert.

Eight people dead were initially reported dead and several others wounded, fire department officials said.

The number of victims climbed to 13 early Saturday, according to Paris-Normandie, a local news website.

The terrible news had many in France on edge even as officials said preliminary investigations pointed to an accidental explosion sparking the deadly flames.

The region of Normandy still reeling from a deadly, ISIS-inspired church attack July 17 that left a priest dead, just as France is struggling after a spate of deadly terrorist attacks at home and neighboring Belgium.

Croissants & August 5th

August 5, 2016 is the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Petrovaradin or Peterwardein, a decisive victory for Austrian forces in the war between Habsburg Monarchy of Austria and the Ottoman Empire of August 5, 1716, at Petrovaradin (then part of Military Frontier, Habsburg Monarchy; today part of Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia). This was the beginning of the end of the Ottomans. After the war, a church commemorating this event was built on Tekije, on the hill over battlefield, and is dedicated to Our Lady of Tekije, also known as Our Lady of the Snows. The church is special, because it has both Catholic and Orthodox altars and both Christian denominations use it. The site is a place of pilgrimage on every August 5.

After the battles that defeated the Ottomans, they had lost most of their European domains 300 years ago. "Viennese bakers celebrated their deliverance with what came to be called the croissant, a pastry in the shape of the Muslim crescent. Take a bite out of Islam?" notes one anti-jihadist site. 

The other date linked to this story is - September 11, 1638.

The earliest story dates to 1683, during the Ottoman Turks siege of Vienna. Legend has it that a baker working late at night heard the Turks tunneling under the walls of the city and alerted the military.
The military collapsed the tunnel in on the Turks and eliminated the threat, saving the city. The baker baked a crescent shaped pastry in the shape of the Turk’s Islamic emblem, the crescent moon, so that when his fellow Austrians bit into the croissant, they would be symbolically devouring the Turks. Source.

Many people have heard that the croissant was created in 1686 in Budapest, Hungary by a courageous and watchful baker, at a time when the city was being attacked by the Turks. Working late one night, he heard odd rumbling noises and alerted the city's military leaders. They found that the Turks were trying to get into the city by tunnelling under the city's walls. The tunnel was destroyed and the baker was a hero, but a humble hero — all he wanted in reward was the sole right to bake a special pastry commemorating the fight. The pastry was shaped like a crescent, the symbol of Islam, and presumably meant that the Hungarians had eaten the Turks for lunch.

This merely demonstrates the many-sourced legendary nature of the croissant origins story.

The connection between the croissant as an anti-Islamist symbol is clear, nevertheless.

The 100th anniversary of the August 5, 1916, World War I, Battle of Romani, in which the Allied forces, under the command of Archibald Murray, defeat an attacking Ottoman army under the command of Friedrich Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein, securing the Suez Canal and beginning the Ottoman retreat from the Sinai Peninsula.

Two major defeats for the Ottomans and Islam, on August 5th. The invention of the croissant tied to August 5th. In the midst of war, history must not be forgotten, overlooked, or ignored. Radical terrorists are attuned to twilight language.

San Bernardino, Orlando, Dallas, Nice. It is a regular happening, mass deaths. The line of events is now long. It goes back for years. Lone gunmen, terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and even cars & trucks into crowds. What is next on the horizon?

Remember Friday, July 20, 2012? James Holmes opened fire on the patrons at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, just as The Dark Knight Rises began, killing 12 and injuring 70 others. The night was the premiere evening for the film. (See also here, here, and here.)

Do you recall the trailer that ran before the movie that night in Aurora? It was Gangster Squad, and it showed a movie theater being shot up with machine guns. That scene was later taken out of the actual film before it was released.

But the Aurora shooting did not happen in a vacuum. There were precursors. As I wrote a year ago, will the "Next Movie Shooting: August 5, 2016?"

What quickly followed was rather remarkable.

On Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Grand 16, in Lafayette, Louisiana, an unidentified 59-year-old male opened fire on a crowd of viewers at Trainwreck. On July 24, 2015, I wrote about that in "Fayette Factor Hits Movie Theater."

On August 4, 2015, I warned of the anniversary syndrome with regard to the Lafayette shooting. 

We are coming up to the two-week anniversary for the Trainwreck/Lafayette shooting, always a dangerous window. The date for that anniversary - Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
People should watch out.

Besides Lafayette/Fayette, should we look to other "power name" locations or people*?

My 2015 prediction came to pass for August 5, 2015. I wrote:

On August 5, 2015, my recent forecast came true. Two-week anniversaries are significant. (And four-week, one month cycles, are, as well. That upcoming date is Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Predictive future forecasting is simple. What people do with it, remains problematic. At least, the copycat effect is now not disbelieved, as it was a mere dozen years ago when I wrote my book.)...
The predicted theater incident occurred exactly two weeks after a shooting at a showing of Trainwreck in Lafayette, Louisiana. The hatchet attack and air pistol shooting resulted in the death of the attacker and the injury of three patrons of the theater.

The movie that was playing at the time was Mad Max: Fury Road....

The 2015 event took place at the Carmike Hickory 8 Cinema in Antioch, Tennessee, around 1:15 p.m. The gunman at the Hickory Hollow Cinema, Vincente David Montano was allegedly armed with a hatchet, pepper spray, an Airsoft gun, and a fake bomb. He reportedly was wearing a surgical mask. He was shot dead by a SWAT team as he exited through the theater's rear door.
It happened on Bell Road, a power name mentioned here often. See also here and here....

But now, the one year anniversary will soon be upon us.

This is not "fear porn." This is using forecast to heighten awareness.

As I said on a recent 42 Minutes podcast interview with Sync Book's William Morgan (7.14.16 #235), people walk around in a fog. I am here to splash some water in some faces to attempt to prevent disasters. 

The movie Suicide Squad opens on Friday, August 5, 2016. Is it subconsciously broadcasting the kinds of messages to those who might shoot up a movie theater? Will it trigger the kind of shooting that we have come to almost (but not really) take for granted in the climate of violence today?

Suicide Squad takes place in a post-Superman world, following the events of Dawn of Justice, as the government grapples with how to respond the next time an alien visits Earth with less noble intentions than the Man of Steel. The answer, according to ruthless intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), is to recruit society’s most vile criminals, armed with lethal skills and superhuman powers. Her first target is possessed archaeologist June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).
Waller’s program doesn’t get a green light, though, until Midway City is threatened by a powerful mystical enemy, and Waller needs to activate the whole squad of prisoners. The baddies get a break. Deadshot (Will Smith) has his Second Amendment rights reinstated, Harley (Margot Robbie) is carefully excised from her birdcage, Diablo (Jay Hernandez) is released from his own fireproof fortress of solitude, Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Slipknot (Adam Beach) strap their weapons back on, and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is popped from his swamp. The one condition for their restricted freedom: Obey orders or die, a rule strictly enforced by squad leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), his samurai Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and the explosive devices inserted into their necks courtesy of Wayne Enterprises. (Thanks, Batman!) Throwing a wrench into all these plans is the tatted Gotham City arch-criminal, the Joker (Jared Leto), and his laser-like plan to reunite with his true love, Harley, mission be damned.
But a funny thing happens while these scumbags try to become heroes – they each must absolve themselves of their crimes even if society won’t. And that’s where it gets interesting. A layer of humanity – and sadness – resides underneath these characters’ stories as they each grapple with whether they can be redeemed.

*What names to watch?

In Jim Brandon's 1983 book, The Rebirth of Pan: Hidden Faces of the American Earth Spirit, he wrote, regarding the "name game":

I'm not talking here of such spooky tongue-twisters as H.P. Lovecraft's Yog-Sothoth or Arthur Machen's Ishakshar, but of quite ordinary names like Bell, Beall and variants, Crowley, Francis, Grafton, Grubb, Magee/McGee, Mason, McKinney, Montpelier, Parsons, Pike, Shelby, Vernon, Watson/Watt, Williams/Williamson. I have others on file, but these are the ones which I have accumulated the most instances.

In my 1983 Mysterious America, I observed, besides John A. Keel and Charles Fort:

Cryptologic or coincidence? Jim Brandon should be credited with calling attention to the name Watts/Watkins/Watson, and its entanglement with inexplicable things. Some other names involved in mysterious events pinpointed by Brandon are Bell, Mason, Parsons, Pike, Vernon, and Warren. The influence of such names as Mason, Pike, Warren, and Lafayette, for example, issues, in some cryptopolitical and occult way, from their ties to the Masonic tradition.

Next Movie Shooting: August 5, 2016?

Could the next major theatrical mass shooting occur on August 5, 2016?

Remember Friday, July 20, 2012? James Holmes opened fire on the patrons at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, just as The Dark Knight Rises began, killing 12 and injuring 70 others. The night was the premiere evening for the film. (See also here, here, and here.)

Do you recall what occurred a year before that event? Early on Friday, July 22, 2011, a person dressed as a policeman (Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year-old Norwegian right-wing extremist) fired shots at Norway's Labour Party Youth Camp on the island of Utøya, injuring and killing over 90 people, mostly young people. There were about 700 people at the camp. The death toll for the shootings at the camp plus the bombings was set at 77. The same day, on Friday, July 22, 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger was widely released in the United States, which began with a battle between Nazis and the film's hero - in Norway.
