Murder Live on Facebook

Today is the anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting that resulted in 33 dead (32 students & staff, plus one shooter who died by suicide). The attacks received international media coverage. It was one of the first instances of the gunman directly involving the media with a mailing. On April 18, NBC aired the videotape and some pictures that it received from the killer, Seung-Hui Cho, that afternoon. The package, which NBC's Brian Williams called a "multimedia manifesto," was mailed between the two shooting episodes and was received at NBC's New York headquarters that afternoon, and they reported the package to the FBI.

In a ripple from a decade ago, this Easter Sunday April 16, 2017, was shaken by the live broadcast on Facebook of a Cleveland, Ohio, murder.

The name of the suspect is Steve Stephens, known as "Stevie Steve" on social media. He says he's flipped and created an "Easter Day Slaughter," although only one victim has been found and identified. He also claims he is going to randomly shoot “Greeks” in the head until he gets caught. Stephens said on his Facebook page he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Stephen is from the Greek name Στεφανος (Stephanos) meaning "crown," more precisely "that which surrounds." Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death, as told in Acts in the New Testament. He is regarded as the first Christian martyr. Due to him, the name became common in the Christian world.

The name of the one known victim is named Robert Godwin, 74.

The meaning of the name Godwin [Goodwin (English)] is originally from the Middle English personal name Godewyn, Old English Godwine, composed of the elements god "good" + wine "friend."

The suspect Steve Stephens broadcast the killing on Facebook Live around 2 p.m. ET, and has claimed to have committed multiple other homicides which are yet to be verified. The shooting happened at 635 East 93rd Street.

In the video, which has been removed from Facebook, the suspect pulls up to an elderly man who is walking on the side of the road. He tells the man to say a woman’s name and pulls out his gun. The elderly man repeatedly tells the suspect he doesn’t know the woman, but the suspect pulls the trigger, shooting the man in the head, leaving him bloodied in the street.

The suspect walks away and says the elderly man is dead because of the woman. The woman's name, Joy Lane, means, literally, "path to happiness."

Steve Stephens also blamed casinos, specifically the Jack Casino in Cleveland.

Authorities identified the suspect as Steve Stephens (above, pictured here on Easter), a 6-foot, 1-inch tall African American male with a full beard. He weighs 244 lbs. The suspect is believed to be wearing a dark blue and grey or black striped polo shirt.

In a posted Facebook video, Stephens says that he is a case manager at Beech Brook (pictured above), a children’s behavioral health agency that is based in northeast Ohio. It is a facility that employs behavior modification techniques.

“For 165 years, Beech Brook has been serving Northeast Ohio’s most vulnerable children. Today, as a leading behavioral health agency, Beech Brook will serve more than 18,000 children and families this year,” the facility’s website says. “Beech Brook touches the lives of children, teens and families through an array of services ranging from prevention, education and early intervention to community-based programming to strengthen and support youth and families.”

In one of his videos, Stephens blamed his workplace for driving him to kill people.

“We are shocked and horrified like everyone else,” said Nancy Kortemeyer, a spokeswoman for Beech Brook said in a statement. “To think that one of our employees could do this is awful. … We don’t know anything more about it. We Hope and pray that he is arrested as soon as possible and we hope and pray for a resolution quickly.”

“Steve Stephens killed an elderly gentleman. I personally give my condolences to the family of the victim,” Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson said during a press conference.

“We know who Steve Stephens is and he will be eventually caught. He need not to do anymore harm to any innocent people. Whatever concerns or problems that he’s having, we’re here to have a conversation,” the mayor said.

“We need Steve to turn himself in,” Police Chief Calvin D. Williams said. “We want this to end with as much peace as we can bring to this right now. If that doesn’t happen, we have all our partners in on this and will look until we find him.”

Williams said state, county and federal officials are helping with the capture of the suspect. As of this evening, there have been no sightings of the suspect.

Williams also said that there are no other victims and urges the public to come forward with any information. “We need to get Steve off the streets,” he said. “There’s no need for any more bloodshed.”

Police are searching for a white Ford Fusion that belongs to the suspect. They said the suspect was last seen south of Interstate-90 in the area of East 93rd.

Williams said the car was recently purchased and thinks there is a temporary tag and that the plates could have been switched.

Emergency staffers at the Cleveland Clinic is on standby for mass casualties.

Remember, this is the 10th anniversary of VA Tech, with experienced a media-involved shooting.

The live nature of a murder online is a first, according to media commentary. But it follows closely the almost immediate taping and spread of the August 26, 2015 shooting of WDBJ camearman Adam Ward and reporter Alison Parker, at Bridgewater Plaza, Moneta, Virginia.

The first-person shooter images that issued from that 2015 incident are quite similar to the Steve Stephens "kill shot" of Mr. Goodwin.

Route 66's Martin Milner Dies

If you ever plan to motor west,
Travel my way, take the highway that is best. ~ Route 66

Route 66's Martin Milner died on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Milner died at his home in Carlsbad, California, at the age of 83.

Martin Sam Milner (December 28, 1931 – September 6, 2015) was an American film, stage, radio and television actor. Milner is best known for his performances in two popular television series: Route 66, which aired on CBS from 1960 to 1964, and Adam-12, which aired on NBC from 1968 to 1975.

Route 66
is an American television drama that premiered on CBS on October 7, 1960, and ran until March 20, 1964, for a total of 116 episodes. The series was created by Herbert B. Leonard and Stirling Silliphant, who were also responsible for the ABC drama Naked City, from which Route 66 was indirectly spun off. Both series employed a format that employed elements of both traditional drama and anthology drama, but there was a difference in where the shows were set: Naked City was set in New York, while Route 66 had its setting change from week to week, with each episode being shot on location in the area in which it was set.

Martin Milner starred as Tod Stiles, a recent college graduate with no future prospects due to circumstances beyond his control. He was originally joined by Buz Murdock, a friend and former employee of his father played by George Maharis, on his travels, Buz leaving midway through the third season with the character of Buz contracting echovirus. Near the end of the third season Tod met a recently discharged Vietnam veteran named Lincoln Case, played by Glenn Corbett, who decided to follow Tod on his travels and stayed with him until the final episode.

Students of Forteana, political assassinations, and the unexplained are familiar with how symbolic this program remains tied to this road's number. One of strangest cases I ever investigated in Illinois was “the Blue Phantom of Route 66," seen during the 1950s, as I document in Mysterious America. Jim Brandon in his The Rebirth of Pan: Hidden Faces of the American Earth Spirit notes the significance of 33's "second multiple" being 66, and how roads designated "66" appear in the midst of strange situations, as, for example, during the specific key Mothman years' sightings along West Virginia State Road 66.

In the recent Bridgewater Plaza killings, it ended with the suicide of the gunman on I-66.

It's a small world, after all. Above is Glenda Jennings, shown in the February 15, 1963 episode of Route 66, "Somehow It Gets to Be Tomorrow," filmed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Red Dirt Report editor Andrew W. Griffin's godmother, who had married his mother's oldest brother, played a carhop in the episode.

Griffin mentioned this to me as we discussed the strange, pre-JFK assassination episode, "Love is a Skinny Kid" on Route 66, released on April 6, 1962, filmed in "Dallas."

Tuesday Weld is distantly related to Charles J. Guiteau, who assassinated President James A. Garfield. I just wrote about Chicago's Garfield Park.

What About Bob? Bridgewater Plaza Crime Scene

The 1991 crazy comedy, What About Bob?, was filmed at Smith Mountain Lake - the site of the Bridgewater Plaza shootings. In the movie, starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss, a successful psychiatrist (Dreyfuss) loses his mind after one of his most dependent patients, a highly manipulative obsessive-compulsive (Murray), tracks him down during his family vacation.

The setting for the fictional narrative was Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, but because the leaves were turning their fall colors, the movie was filmed in and around the town of Moneta and Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia.

Quote from the film:

[Leo has a rifle pointed at Bob]
Bob Wiley (Bill Murray): What are we doing?
Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss): Death Therapy, Bob. It's a guaranteed cure.

Bridgewater Plaza's Batman Syncs

Synchromystic examinations of newly discovered photos of Bridgewater Plaza victim Alison Parker are being discussed today. The visual links to the Aurora events at The Dark Knight Rises are bizarre and give pause.

In one image, Alison Parker plays the Joker's Harley Quinn (from Suicide Squad?) with Batman.

The newly posted tribute video by Daniel Wulz, Alison Bailey Parker's allegedly former boyfriend, who calls himself "Batman," contains the posted photographs. The Batman syncs are rather numerous.

After Alison Parker's death, Wulz posted many images, in his very public mourning.

As Batman...

Alison Parker grew up in Martinsville, Virginia, and attended Patrick Henry Community College and James Madison University.
Adam Ward graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in communications and media studies in 2011. He began the same year 2007, but during the fall, after the VA Tech "massacre."

The "coincidence" of her cameraman's name has hit various observers. Adam West/Burt Ward = Adam Ward.

Vester Flanagan (who sported a Superman tattoo) killed Adam Ward. And Batman's girlfriend, Alison Parker. Was it Batman vs Superman?

WDBJ reporter Vester Lee Flanagan bought a television set from the same pawn shop, Roanoke Firearms, where Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung-Hui purchased the gun he used in the 2007 massacre. After Flanagan's purchase, he penned an eight-page rant detailing his unsatisfactory experience. The shop owner Doug Brandt kept the letter so if Flanagan ever tried to buy a gun there, he would be denied.

The month of August 2015 was filled with Batman syncs.

Eight people were found dead inside a home in north Houston, Texas, on the night of August 8, 2015. The suspect was arrested wearing a Batman shirt.

On August 15, 2015, Donald Trump said "I am Batman" to a child to whom he gave a free helicopter ride.

On August 16, 2015, police responding to a 911 call at about 3 am found 33-year-old E'Dena Hines - Morgan Freeman's stepgranddaughter - lying on the street with multiple stab wounds to her chest. She had been murdered. Freeman was in the Dark Knight movies, and she accompanied him to the opening.

On August 16, 2015, a Batman impersonator died during a late night Maryland highway crash, when his Batmobile was propelled into him, killing him.

On August 17, 2015, actress Yvonne Craig, best known for her role as Batgirl in the 1960's Batman TV series, died at the age of 78.

Aurora ripples into 2015.
