Chicken Feathers

The ramifications from the events on January 6, 2021, and the links to other anti-government incidents continue. Earlier reviewed were the deaths tied to the attempted Capitol takeover (see here). Now a FBI case breaks open a can of worms in Maine, and perhaps throughout New England.

Arrest

The FBI says 37-year-old Kyle Fitzsimons of Lebanon was arrested February 4, 2021, for taking part in the Capitol riots.  Fitzsimons, 37, is the first Mainer to be prosecuted for his alleged participation in the Jan. 6 insurrection. He appeared in U.S. District Court of Maine for the first time Friday.

Photos released by the FBI show Fitzsimons at the riots. In some, he's covered in blood from his clashes with the police.

In their complaint, the FBI shows screenshots of Fitzsimons allegedly lowering his shoulder and charging at police officers, getting hit by their batons and swinging at officers.

Fitzsimons’s charged with four federal offenses, including assaulting a federal officer. Fitzsimons called the violence a "set up."

The FBI complaint also shows Fitzsimons dressed as a butcher, wearing a white coat with the name "Kyle" on it. (Fitzsimons is said in the document to have worked for the Hannaford Store in York. In a statement to WMTW, Hannaford says he did not work there but decline to offer any details of Fitzsimons having worked for the grocery store chain in the past.)

Fitzsimons Meaning

Fitzsimons (also spelled FitzSimons, Fitzsimmons or FitzSimmons) is a surname of Norman origin common in both Ireland and England. The name is a variant of "Sigmundsson," meaning son of Sigmund. The Gaelicization of this surname is Mac Shíomóin.

Sigmund, also spelled Siegmund, is a Germanic given name with roots in proto-Germanic *segaz and *mundō, giving a rough translation of "protection through victory."

Feathers

Also, Portland police confirm Fitzsimons is a person of interest in their investigation of a suspicious package left at the Portland Museum of Art.  The suspicious package was made up of feathers surrounding a box along with a spray painted message at the Portland Museum of Art at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021.

The word "BALM" was spray painted on the sidewalk.

Fitzsimons told the Rochester Voice newspaper in a Jan. 11 article that he changed into a “costume” – his white butcher jacket – before he joined the throng at the Capitol that day, and he carried an unstrung bow as a sign of peace. Rochester is across the Maine-New Hampshire border from Lebanon.

The affidavit also describes him wearing what appeared to be a fur pelt around his neck, and Fitzsimons described himself as a trapper when he called in to the Lebanon Board of Selectman meeting Jan. 7 to describe his experience the previous day in Washington.

“Fitzsimons was identified early in our investigation as the person who placed the package at the PMA,” Portland police Lt. Robert Martin said Friday evening, February 5, 2021, in a text message. Martin said surveillance footage from the area and extensive work by detectives helped make the identification.

White Feathers As Symbols of Cowardice

During World War I, thousands of women across the British Empire gave men white feathers to shame them into enlisting in the military. By 1785 in England “show the white feather” was a folk saying for the behavior of a timid fighting cock. Fighting cocks was not then or subsequently a respectable activity. In 1902, British novelist A. E. W. Mason used the white feather as a central symbol of a British army officer’s cowardice in his adventure novel, The Four Feathers. A silent-film adaptation of that novel, Four Feathers, was produced in the U.S. in 1915. Mason’s novel thus symbolically elevated the white feather into a potent means for publicly shaming men into fighting in World War I. Source.

American's Stonehenge

Investigator Enki King has pointed to various strange crimes occurring around New England in recent years.

For example, in September-October 2019, vandalism was investigated at America's Stonehenge/Mystery Hill at North Salem, New Hampshire. The power tool infected carvings appeared to have the fingerprints of QAnon all over this. The suggestions go in a few different directions and point to a variety of conspiracy angles.

Mid-2020, "Colorado, Aurora, Waffle House, and the Watts Name Game" reared its head. At the end of last year and the beginning of the present one, "Aurora" was back in the news.

Of Ice Cream and Trees

This makes three known violent incidents, in less than a month, associated with ice cream venues.

#1 ~ Maine

Around 3 p.m., on August 19, 2015, in the ice cream aisle at the Shaw's Supermarket in Saco, Maine, Connor S. MacCalister, 31, allegedly slit the throat of Wendy Boudreau, 59. Boudreau died. More.

#2 ~ Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Labor Commissioner Mark Costello, late on August 23, 2015, was allegedly stabbed to death by his son Christian Erin Costello, 26, at Braum's Ice Cream Parlor in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. More.

#3 ~ Pennsylvania

On Monday, September 7, 2015, a man, 47, shot Stacy Pennington, 46, then attempted to kill himself, in front of the Jigger Shop Ice Cream Parlor, Mount Gretna, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. Pennington died. 

Pennington owned a landmark specialty gift shop, the Gretna Emporium, next to The Jigger Shop. Authorities speculate that the gunman, who remains alive, is a former boyfriend of Pennington's. Source.

Only 10 minutes before he opened Mount Gretna’s popular The Jigger Shop one last time this summer, owner Chuck Allwein looked up late this morning to see a horrible sight: a man shoot a woman twice, not 10 feet away. “It was like 5 or 10 feet from me,” said Allwein, who said he was cleaning on The Jigger’s Shop open deck at about 11:50 a.m. Allwein said he saw the man shoot the woman once from about 5 feet, then stand over her and shoot her again at point-blank range. Update: September 8, 2015

Police say it was 11:30 a.m. Monday when Patrick Derr, 47, chased his ex-girlfriend, Stacey Pennington, 46, out of the gift shop she owned. Police say Derr shot Pennington twice outside The Emporium, sat on a bench, then shot himself in the head.

Channel 8 news also posted this: the bench.

A 3-year-old girl (identified as Wynter Larkin) is dead after an accident occurred at a Rita's Water Ice Saturday afternoon [June 28, 2014].A security gate detached and came crashing down on the child shortly after 4 p.m. when she was standing outside a Rita's location at 2829 Girard Ave. in Philadelphia's Brewerytown neighborhood, according to reports.
An ambulance rushed the victim to Hahnemann University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:02 p.m., according to officials.
Police say the girl was with her mother attending a fundraising event for the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority when the tragedy occurred. (Read more at source.)

Photos from the scene show the black metal gate lying on the sidewalk, pink balloons still tied to it in front of the shop's red and white striped awning.
Several popped balloons appear trapped underneath the gate, which businesses typically roll down after hour to prevent crime. (These details were graphically mentioned in the Daily Mail.)

Omega Psi Phi (ΩΨΦ) Fraternity, Inc. is the first international fraternal organization to be founded on the campus of a historically black college.
Omega Psi Phi was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The founders were three Howard University undergraduates, -- Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman. Joining them was their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just.

From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning, "friendship is essential to the soul," the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto. Source.

Alpha Kappa Alpha (ΑΚΑ) is the first Greek-lettered sorority established and incorporated by African-American college women. Membership is primarily for college educated women, but not all members have attended college. The sorority was founded on January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., by a group of twenty students, led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. In an update of an earlier "Suffer The Little Children" item about the child who died in a SUV in the Atlanta area, CNN reported:

The suspect in a Georgia toddler's death told police he used the Internet to research child deaths inside vehicles, a search warrant said.
The father, Justin Ross Harris, 33, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and second-degree child cruelty in the death of his 22-month-old son, Cooper Harris. The boy died after he was left seven hours in a sweltering SUV on June 18.
"During an interview with Justin, he stated that he recently researched, through the internet, child deaths inside vehicles and what temperature it needs to be for that to occur," according to a sworn statement in the warrant from a police officer. "Justin stated that he was fearful that this could happen."
According to search warrants from a Cobb County magistrate court, investigators seized a number of items from the father's home: An iPhone 5, Hyundai car, home laptop computer, computer tower, a Google Chromecast Internet searcher and other electronic devices.

On Sunday, June 29th, CNN noted:

Leanna Harris, the mother of a Georgia toddler who died locked in a hot car, has told authorities that she previously researched such deaths and how they occur, according to a police affidavit.

In a followup on another earlier report, "Solstice Missing Teen Found Dead in Maine," details have emerged about his slaying:

Three young men, one of them from Sanford, Maine, face the possibility of life in prison after being charged Thursday [June 26, 2014] with the premeditated stabbing death of a teenager whose body was dumped last weekend in Lebanon, Maine.
Zachary Pinette, 18, of Sanford appeared Thursday in Dover District Court to be formally charged with the first-degree murder of Aaron Wilkinson.
His co-defendants, Michael Tatum, 21, of Barrington, New Hampshire, and Tristan Wolusky, 18, of Rochester, New Hampshire, appeared from the Strafford County Jail through a video link.
The three are charged with killing Wilkinson outside his house in Madbury, a small town next to Dover. Pinette drove them there from Maine after midnight on Saturday, and held a machete as the other two stabbed Wilkinson with knives and then the machete, according to documents filed by prosecutors.
The documents say that at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Pinette aided Wolusky and Tatum in committing first-degree murder. The documents also say that Tatum stabbed Wilkinson with a knife, and that Wolusky used a “knife and/or machete.” Source.

It may not be a coincidence that this killing took place a few hours before the Solstice.

Solstice Missing Teen Found Dead In Maine

Authorities said an 18-year-old from Madbury, New Hampshire who was reported missing from his home on June 21, 2014, Saturday, the Summer Solstice, was stabbed to death.

Parents of the missing teen called local police Saturday morning to report their son missing. Shortly after the initial report, the state police and their major crime unit joined the investigation. Authorities spent much of the afternoon and evening on Saturday at the teen's home on Evans Road. They returned on Sunday. State police officers could be seen gathering evidence and processing the scene.
Meanwhile, in nearby Lebanon, Maine, authorities just across the border were trying to determine the identity of a body discovered along Long Swamp Road on Saturday afternoon. The body was found by a woman walking along the road at about 4 p.m.
In a news release early Sunday morning, Maine police said the body had no identification on it and they were reviewing missing persons reports from Maine and other New England states.
Authorities in New Hampshire said they would wait until a definitive identification was made to connect the two, but family members of the missing teen were told by police it was likely their son. Source.

Authorities confirmed Monday that the person who was found stabbed to death in Lebanon, Maine, on Saturday was the teenager who was reported missing from his home in Madbury that day, but they shed no light on what they believe happened or whether they have identified a suspect.
Aaron Wilkinson, who stopped attending high school last year and worked until a few months ago at a warehouse at the Kittery Trading Post, was an avid skateboarder who frequented the John C. Littlefield Memorial Skate Park in Exeter, New Hampshire.

... Wilkinson left Dover High [School] and attended Oyster River High School in neighboring Durham, according to his Facebook page, though he left before this year, which would have been his senior year.
Prosecutors in New Hampshire would not say when or where Wilkinson was killed, or when he was last seen by his family before he was reported missing Saturday morning. Source.

Wilkinson:
"Son of Wilkin," from Wilkin, a diminutive for William from the Germanic nameWilhelm from the elements wil, "will or desire," and helm, "helmet or protection." Wilkinson is just one of many surnames derived from William, or "son of William."

Okay, okay. No reason to go overboard. There is no need to think World War III is around the corner, despite what appears to be a blogosphere full of people seemingly hoping it is going to break out any day. Yes, really, that's what I see out there.

But, seriously, these are rough times, with many regional wildfire wars really to spark widespread chaos. 

Of course, I have always found the worse hidden costs of our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the suicides of our returning soldiers - and less documented - the suicides of subcontractors - and the covert mass violence situations from both. But more on that some other day.

Is it going to stop soon? Not if you listen to the prophets of the web....
